My America
Am I an anarchist or a patriot
And will I be honest with myself
Are we giving away our freedoms
And squandering all our wealth
Who decided on new world order
That is stealing our jobs away.
And why are our young folks dying
In that foreign land every day
People with far less freedoms
Will topple their own governments
If they feel a threat of oppression
With nothing but hope for armaments
And we sit and do nothing at all
While our tenets slowly erode
As the things we take for granted
All around us quickly implode
Do we not have the courage
To reclaim our US birthright
Or think we're not in danger
Or are we suffering from fright
Can we be the proud nation
We were conceived to be
Will we lose it by our apathy
Instead of remaining free

When Seasons Collide
Autumn settles in right on time
Too soon winter rushes through
When different seasons collide
It immediately changes the view
The leaves still clinging to the trees
The snows covering them overnight
You rush to open the outside faucets
As the wind chill is starting to bite
Autumn is my favorite time of the year
With the sight, the smell, the taste
And the hearty bounty bestowed upon us
To keep or give away but never waste
You feel the cold burn on your cheeks
But the smart tells you you're alive
And you scan your world from inside
You lived to see another season arrive
Christmas
I love the gifts you all brought me
But the things I'll treasure forever
Are the smiles, the laughs and tears
And catching up on all your endeavors.
And when the yule log is flickering out
And the children have all gone to bed
We sit around and lovingly reminesce
About the laughter and tears we've shed
Four generations now coming together
Hopefully keeping our family legacy intact
To pass on our own traditions and customs
Hoping the new generations will react.
And when the New Year saunters in
And everyone goes their own way
I'll look out the window at the snow
And remember the kids here at play
For thats what I'll remember everyday
All the smiles and the laughter too
All the love and the caring we shared
And I'm really going to miss all of you
The Winter Of Discontent
Jobs are scarce around here
Tempers seem out of control
Worry and fear rule the day
The dispair is taking its toll
The good life we've been living
We thought we were entitled to
So now it just seems too difficult
To face the fact that its not true
Our minds are now aimed elsewhere
We forget many important matters
Taking our tension out on each other
As we see our lives now in tatters.
And now as if Mother Nature knew
We have the worst winter in years
As the snow and cold surround us
Its enough to drive anyone to tears
The kids are staying clear of you as
Your sharp tongue is aimed their way
And your partner is barely hanging on
Hoping to make it for another day
Take your frustrations out to the drive
Get shoveling the mounds of snow
Get your kids and build a snowman
Now let the love and laughter flow
Learn how to keep your mouth shut
Rather than saying things not meant
So you'll still be happily together
At the end of the Winter of Discontent

Hard Times
My mate and I have worked real hard
To provide for our children's necessities
But now we are both laid-off our jobs
So the basic needs seem like amenities
Seems no one is hiring in our hometown
My friends say its the same everywhere
I wonder what it was we did or didn't do
And I'm fighting off the feeling of dispair
I'm hoping this is just a little speed bump
And the road will be much smoother ahead
Yet It seems to begetting bumpier everyday
Fear of not knowing whats next is my dread
And its hard to step back from our way of life
Doing without the things we found pleasant
We have to be responsible and cut back
Balance our budget unlike the government

Once Upon A Time In America 2
I remember once upon a time in America
We stood pledging allegiance to our flag
This always brought a lump to my throat
We were the best was not just a brag.
But that feeling is being lost to us
We are letting it all silently slip away
We've taken our blessings for granted
Not realizing sooner or later we'd pay.
Our politicians are stealing the lifestyle
We all thought was an absolute right
We now try desperately to hold on to
The things we are losing overnight.
The greed of many has broken others
Their jobs and their homes being lost
We can't blame someone else I fear
When our own indifference is the cost.
I hope we will all take it more serious
When election day again comes around
Take the time to know the candidates
Support the issues that are truely sound
They can't take our freedoms from us
Or make slaves and paupers of us all
Unless we give them the right to do it
By not fighting and losing it by default.
I Love My Country
I love my country with a fervor
That will never be extinguished
I know we're not always right
So events have left her tarnished.
But our biography is a masterpiece
A young nation with chapters unwritten
Envied by some and copied by others
Folks scratching and clawing to get in
You don't have to agree with everything
But don't dismiss the new experiment
Would your life be better elsewhere
Than on our American firmament
So instead of always complaining
Think about how we can improve
This wonderful place we call home
'Cause I for one don't want to move
And I'm gettin' tired of apologizing
For being a patriotic American
'Cause that's just who I want to be
So I no longer beg your pardon.
This Tragic War
These days I wake every morning
And I take time to think of them
But it doesn't ever get any easier
As my tears always flow again
I see faces of the young folks
That we have put in harms way
I pray they will get through this
That they live to see another day
And I wonder if we do enough for
The near 30,000 when they get home
To ease all their physical scars
Or mental anguish they've known
The pain in my heart never relents
At the loss of almost 4100 lives
I can not justify this in my mind
A useless tragedy I again realize
So lets do all we can to get out
Of this corrupt and obscene war
And tell the old school politicians
Enough we won't take it anymore

Unexpected
I got me a new computer
Just to while away the time
Cause now I am retired
Now my time is all mine.
I knew I'd learn a lot
And the emails I could send
But what was unexpected
Was meeting you my friends
The Olympics
The best thing the world has to offer
Only comes around every two years
When truely WE ARE THE WORLD
It is then we can forget all our cares
We marvel at these talented athletes
They come from all over the planet
Excelling in the sport of their choice
The thrill is too intense to explain it
The heart of gymnast Keri Strugs
With her pain still managed to land
And who can forget Eddie the Eagle or
The Samoan's who skied in the sand
We'll always remember when we won
A hard fought gold medal in basketball
And lest we never forget Jesse Owens
Despite the hatred he answered the call
Unfortunately the sad memory recalled
When politics again reared its ugly head
The Israeli team murdered for ideology
The whole world cried, the whole world bled
Of course we all like to root for our own
But sometimes others grab our attention
Like Nadie Comaneci and Torvel and Dean
And others to numerous to mention
Good luck to all who take part in the games
Respect each other for the athletes you are
You've earned this wonderful cultural exchange
Keep the doors of experience and learning ajar
Little Bird On My Window Sill
Little bird on my window sill
So very cold in this April snow
You cut your vacation very short
And came back North to Ohio
Let me give you a bit of advise
Next year your return do delay
Stay down South and keep warm
And come back on Memorial Day
The Old Cherry tree
The old cherry tree
gives me great pleasure
Abundant pink billows
of flowers to treasure
And when the bounty
weighs down the tree
The birds have a feast
And save none for me!!
