The New Snowfall
Looking out on my pristine surroundings
Covered completely with ice and snow
And the light of the new dawning day
Gives the world a breath taking glow.
Folks are now starting to come out
Of the warm homes they dwell in
Those having to shovel to get out
Won't be giving anyone a grin.
The kids will be off school today
But they'll be out playing all day
The snow won't ever bother them
Making angels as in it they lay
Its time to build the snowman
The kids take part one and all
Rolling those great big snowballs
And building it up nice and tall
A top hat and a pipe in his mouth
Makes him one very dapper fellow
Now the dog runs out to join them
Aw!! now everythings all yellow.

Peace on Earth
For over 2000 years at Christmas time
We've proclaimed to all we know
Peace on earth and good will to man
Our sincere wishes we bestow.
But what I don't understand at all
Is why it never becomes so
Do we really mean the words?
Or are we just putting on a show?
All year long you must admit
We are selfish and unkind
We ignore the less fortunate
And don't pay them any mind.
So maybe we need to remember
Each and every day of the year
Peace on earth and good will to man
Is what the world needs to hear.
I think this salutation has become
The most elusive phrase ever.
For all the years of hoping it.
We still can't get it together.
My America
Where is my America?
The land I love so much
I reach out to see her
heart to feel or touch.
But something is missing
In this homeland of mine
I can see it in folks eyes
for days gone by, they pine.
The rift between the classes
has a chasm in between
which is growing so rapidly
it can almost be seen.
Why are they selling America
Piece by precious piece?
When is this sacrilegious
Practice ever to cease?
What have all the heroes
fought for over the years?
The American Dream for all
is overshadowed by fears...
I'm sad for the workingman
Who's wages have shrunk
And the single mom who's
dream's have all but sunk.
I hope it's not too late
To bring America back
May we proceed together
And get on the right track.
Back to School
The kids all went back to school today
Not at all ready for the summer to end
And it's very quiet in the neighborhood
The doors of the school are opened.
With backpacks over their shoulders
All decked out with their new clothes
Smiling as they greet their old friends
Sad that summer is coming to a close.
They will never appreciate these days
Until they are called back in the mind
And the memories that they will share
For a lifetime will forever them bind.
I hope they all have happy memories
To look back on as time goes by
Some will make them laugh aloud
And others make them cry and sigh.
Childhood goes by so very quickly
If we could only stay their for a while
But I know it is just the shortest lap
On this lifes long and beautiful mile.

Eyes
Just walking about the town
Looking at all the many faces
Going nowhere very special
Just looking at others gazes.
I try to smile and say hello
But some stares are so far away
And others go nowhere at all
Buy eyes have something to say
Blue eyes is more than a color
Like gray its a state of mind
I wish more eyes were smiling
But sad eyes are what I find.
Life is so precious and short
We need to enjoy every day
Smiling at the simple things
And walking the scenic way.
Thinking about the sad things
Will bring tears to your eyes
And that can be a good thing
Washing away all your sighs
But after a good cry is over
Wipe your eyes and smile
At all the good in your life
Let the sun shine in for awhile.
Spring Rain
The first warm rain in spring
It makes everything glisten
The explosion of thunder
Beckons everyone to listen..
The lightening illuminating
Everything thats in its path
The shower cleansing all
in a wonderful spring bath.
Flowers reaching to drink
To attain their full potential
Trees will reach for the sky
A scene that is reverential
And when the storm is over
Everything is again serene
A rainbow hovering overhead
Below the grass is lush green
I see puddles on the sidewalk
Makes me feel like a little girl
I'll just step in and splash away
Come on in and take a whirl.
Stop And Smell My Flowers
The sweet smell of the rose
In the early morning dew
And the intoxicating whiff
Of lilacs and lavendar too.
These can not be repeated
No matter how hard they try
In expensive perfume labs
the chemists fiercely vie.
These are only enjoyed by
The few who stop to smell
The lovely lilies of the valley
Now blooming in the dell
Freedom in Iraq
Freedom is a wonderful thing
That everyone should support
Like anything else worthwhile
It must be earned with effort.
Freedom can't be given to you
The fight has got to be in you.
I can support your effort in this
And give you some advise too
But you need to have the desire
Not put all your dependece in us
So it's time for us to leave here
So please don't make a fuss.
May you experience freedom
To worship whomever you want
Be it allah or one of many Gods
Without persecution or taunt.
We wish you all well of course
And may your children grow
To live with the joy of liberty
Because of the seeds you sew.

Young Love
I wrote this to a boyfriend
Back when I was a 'teen
With a very broken heart
And recovery not seen
My pain is worse than your's
No one else can hurt this much
Nobody's tears can sting so bad
As my face they sharply touch.
Nobody had ever loved anyone
As intensely as I cared for you
And the hurt you've caused me
Is exclusive to only a very few.
I will never be able to recover
To be happy and whole again
My heart is forever broken
It will never be able to mend.
I will never ever love again
You've erased all my desire
I just might as well end it all
Put me on the funeral pyre.
This note all came back to me
As I ran into him yesterday
Now that it's 58 years later
We didn't have much to say
He had to introduce himself
I didn't recognize him at all
We tried to have a conversation
But it was mostly just a lull.
How very important things are
When you are only seventeen
All the best is yet to come but
In your young mind its not seen..
Frozen in time
Before I tell you this little story
I need to set the scene as it were
While visiting with my grandaughter
Just commiserating me and her.
I'm not complaining about it mind you
I've lived a life of hard work and strife
Everything was not always perfect with
My jobs, my kids or being a wife.
And she looks up at me and asks
Am I going to ever look like you?
That she's hoping my answer is no
The tone of her voice is my clue
I am not hurt and I simply respond
Only if you want to be this blessed
It takes much work and a lot of love
To nurture other's life long quest
All the lines and furrows upon my face
Like a map tell you the roads I've taken
And if you're truely as lucky as me
Friends will never let you feel forsaken
Please laugh a lot and let the lines show
Nothing is sadder when you get older
Than to have a smooth face frozen in time
Just leaves all who see it feel much colder
Bird on my Fence
Oh little bird perched on my fence
Starring into my kitchen window
Its so cold out there for you today
And Oh how the wind does blow
The snow is piled high around you
But you can still tweet a little song
To let me know you're out there
And how for spring we both long
I'll fill the bird feeder for you soon
In the mean time here's some bread
Your friends have come to join us as
Another storms coming for us to dread
Winter seems like such a drudge but
It makes the spring all the sweeter
So I'll stop and get what you came for
And put the seeds in the bird feeder

My Mirror
As I look intently into my mirror
It suddenly abruptly occurs to me
How every imperfection shows
When did my mirror become HD?

A Christmas Tear
I watch the excitement of the children
As the christmas seasons gets near
They know exactly what they want
And they know it will be here.
I'm glad they have God's blessings
In abundance all through the year
But I want them to know of others
Of whom they may not hear.
So I'll take them to the nursing home
A womans shelter or an orphanage
I'll teach them to give a bit of time
Talent or whatever they can manage.
They need to know that being Christian
Means living this way each and every day
That social problems belong to everyone
And wishing won't make them go away.
And they'll have a merry Christmas
And it will be all the better this year
Because they did for other people
And they learned to shed a tear.
Happy New Year
The New Year is almost upon us
The old year has passed on by
It seemed 2005 just got here
And it's gone in a wink of an eye.
Some family and old friends departed
And we're left with their memories
Replaced by new friends and babies
Whom we'll add to the family trees..
I'll look back briefly at the old year
But I won't remain there in the past
I'll be looking into a new future
A new story with a new cast.
So Happy New Year to everyone
May you be blessed with much love
Have good health and prosper
And peace be bestowed from above.
Spring
Spring has finally arrived
In our neck of the woods.
We can shed the top coat
And dispense with the hoods
The birds sing so sweetly
As their nests they erect
And the golden daffodils
Demanding my respect.
The trees are budding
And the crocuses too
The last vestages of snow
Are about ready to go.
I'm anticipating the tulips
And the lilacs sweet scent
And the sun on my face
It's really a special event
Making plans for the garden
And meeting new neighbors
Digging and planting beds
And all the outdoor labors
I love the change of seasons
Always looking for a change
It's like a lovely picture gallery
That you can always rearrange

The Nursing Home
I walked into the nursing home
Trying to flash my brightest smile
Greeting all I see along the way
And even stopping to talk a while.
Some folks just have no one
Their days are so mundane
Looking for a familiar face
Their faces showing the pain.
Take your children to see them
Especially if they are your kin.
To just leave them there forgotten
Is a heartless grievious sin.
Some homes will even let you
Bring Your best friend the pet
The happiness that is shared
Is the best I have seen yet.
I always cry when I come home
But it is tears both glad and sad.
I know I haven't changed things
The overall life there is still bad.
But if for only a little while
They enjoy some one on one
Then I guess its a good thing
Time to face them and not run.
The Enemy Within
The tragedy of 911 woke us
To the evil terrorists out there
That we must always be vigil
And of their treachery beware.
But lately I've been feeling
Problems nagging at me
That are just as serious
And I think you might agree.
We're trying to keep God
In our allegiance to the flag
We're a Christian nation
At least that is our brag.
Yet now we're saying lately
We want to change the rules
That it should be alright now
To use torture as our tools.
You can't have it both ways
Are you a Christian or not?
We're supposed to be civilized
How well were you taught?
Our young men dying
In a terrible war we can not win
Workers losing their jobs
What a tragedy this has been.
Then we have those in control
Selling out American labor
For the big short term gains
They sell out their neighbor.
Wake up now America
This is a grievous sin
Pay heed to the deeds
Of the enemy within!!
God and Science
Faith in my God and Science
Are not a real contradiction to me
Even infinity had to have a start
Just when or where we can't see.
Science says it can't be proven
There is a God or if he ever existed
That they can prove their theories
Some say faith should be resisted.
Even with my limited knowledge
There is one fact that is always true
Every formula needs a catalyst
Even how the great universe grew
And this tells me a greater being
Then any of us with earthly powers
Had a great deal to do with creating
This wonderful earth that is ours.
I honor the great minds in science
They deserve all the praise they get
But I also honor my God above all
Who will never be repaid his debt.

I'm Not Gonna Take It
I don't care much for our president
And of course his immoral war,
People who won't obey the law,
I ain't gonna. take it no more.
I miss the good times of the past
And the simple life we have known.
I'm tired of the illegal aliens here
Making themselves right at home.
Many Americans losing their jobs
Along with their homes and pride
It breaks my heart to see all this
Think we've been taken for a ride.
My neighbor says shes' mad too
And she don't trust the government
They might take her pension away
And so many are in agreement.
You may have your own gripes that
Are completely opposite of mine.
But of course I think you're wrong
Ultimately if we don't agree that is fine.
Because with all that is wrong
Here in our good old US of A
We can still complain every day
In the good old American way.
Fall
Sitting on a bench in the garden
Simply doing nothing at all
But taking in all the wonder
Of the colorful northern fall
Red and gold leaves swirling
Drifting to the ground below
The white billowy clouds above
Through the blue skies flow.
Another wonderful scene
Another time of the year
Soon all the trees are bare
And winter is almost here
But then the leafless trees
Will have another job to do
Their limbs give the snow
Something firm to cling to
That makes for a wonderous
New and spectacular sight.
The whole world looks clean
All fresh with a coat of white
Some folks don't see the
Beauty of winter and fall
But they too offer a scene
That can be enjoyed by all.
Daydreaming into the Night
I hold you in my arms every night and
You say all the things I want to hear
And I softly whisper them back to you
As we hold each other so very near
And I fall asleep with tears in my eyes
Knowing it's the way things aught to be
But I'm only day dreaming into the night
Cause long ago you got away from me
I'm wonder if you have been happy or
Do you also have some regrets like me
Of course we'd both be too proud to say
We'd just continue to agree to disagree
They say that time heals all wounds
But for me this just hasn't been true
The pain has just touched me deeper
As my love for you intensely grew
So I hope you are kissing me too
If it's just daydreaming into the night
To miss me just a bit now and then
So in our dreams it will be all right

Children
I look around my neighborhood
All I see lately is much sadness
Loss of jobs and the bills unpaid
Answers for them would be a guess
It really brings you down if you let it
Doesn't seem any change in sight
I keep thinking spring will soon arrive
The songbirds will sing to our delight
I watch the children while at play
And it brings a smile to my heart
And the sun reflects off the snow
As the shadows around them dart.
Children have a way of healing me
Without ever saying a single word
Children should not only be seen
But listened to closely and heard
And I feel so much happier now
Hoping I can pass along my mirth
Truth be told we are so much better
Than most every one else on earth
Comort Zone
Once up a time in America
We were invited to join Lucille
In her gen'ts merry Oldsmobile
And even get behind the wheel
Baseball, hotdogs and apple pie
Along with Chevrolet defined us
We were doing pretty well ya see
No reason to make a big fuss
Than Dinah came singing along
Inviting us to see the USA today
And the best way to do this was
Of course in your 50's Chevrolet
Pink Cadilacs and red Corvettes
Along with trucks and minivans
Were such a pleasure to own and
GM always met our demands
It was sad when you realized
Your first car was now classic
And the car you own now is
Nothing special its just basic
We don't love our cars anymore
Or have pride in what we own
I hope the future is brighter
Cause GM was a comfort zone
