Enduring Love

There is nothing greater than true love
That lasts through all the joy and pain
An accepting love without conditions
One to depend on and never refrain.

Knowing you'll be here for me always
Never judging my every little quirk
Quietly listening to my rantings
Even when I'm acting like a big jerk

Understanding when I put my wants
Selfishly ahead of your precious care
When you ask so very little of me
I know a friend like you is very rare.

My friend we're growing old together
So much faster than one would hope
Life is getting tougher to navigate but
We know with each other we can cope

So please get off me and onto the floor
Go get your leash I'll take you for a walk
I'm really glad you spent time with me
And I'm happy we had this little talk

Ode to RCF

I drop in every morning
And hear what you have to say
While I drink my coffee here
It's how I start my day.

I'm meeting new friends
Each and every day
Everyone very unique
in the way they say hey.

Folks from lands afar
In this great world of ours
Giving us their latest news
Or just whiling away the hours.

Sometimes we disagree
That's not a bad thing.
But we always listen to
The new ideas you bring.

We're all so different here
Our ages, education and location
You know what makes it work
is the depth of our appreciation.

So thanks to each and every one
Who spend a little time here
You give me cause to think
And laugh and even shed a tear.

When Your Lover Passes Away

When your lover passes away
Its like no other loss in this life
At first you can't even accept it
It cuts you like a sharp knife.

When you get up three days later
You still set your table for two
You can't believe he's not there
To have morning coffee with you.

At supper you fill two bowls
With his favorite hearty stew
Served with tender biscuits
Just like you used to do.

You glance out the window
At the strong hearty tree
That you planted together
Now swaying in the breeze.

You think of all the good times
You shared in this very good life
The children, garden and house
But most of all being his wife.

And life will go on as it should
You'll smile again thats true
Everyday you'll think of him
If only for a moment or two.

The Power of Words

Words can be so powerful
Said for either good or bad
They can soothe the lonely
Or make anyone feel sad

You should use them wisely
Try not to put others down
Or say them in such a way
Even you don't like the sound

Don't ever say unkind things
About or to another person
Even if you don't mean it
Or try to pass it off as fun

You might think you're smart
And that others think that too
But the truth be told they don't
But that you need to get a clue

If you erred and made a faux pas
As we all have been guilty of
I hope you've made an aplolgy
As a sign of respect if not love

And if you ever have a chance
To make someone else smile
Do it right away don't hesitate
You'll be a hero for a little while

Give It All You've Got

Everyones had a burning intense love
Though sometimes it was all one sided
When the one you loved so intensely
With someone else happily resided

You can either except this sad truth
Or you can pine away the lonely years
You can just move on with your life
Or you can keep wiping away the tears

You can make someone else happy
And have family and memories too
And if you can give it all you've got
True love will certainley come to you

It may not be the way you planned it
Or the way you wished it would be
But everything considered looking back
It just might be the way it should be

I Feel Life Going By Too Quickly

I look back in my memory
And try to go back in time
But the pictures are grainy
And the lyrics don't rhymn

So many people are gone now
Leaving empty spaces behind
The world is spinning too fast
And I can't seem to unwind

I feel life going by too quickly
I try desperately to hang on
To all the wonders I've known
And all the folks who are gone

I resolve from this moment on
I'll not be looking into the past
I'll be making new memories
And making new friends fast

I'm A Believer

You and I have long disagreed
As to the existance of a God
I choose to believe, you do not
You think my total faith is odd

I have never been ashamed to believe
That the universe was thus created
By an infallible supreme being, you say
Is a figment on which my mind is fixated

You say you can prove your point of view
That all the educated folks agree with you
My beliefs are just ignorance of facts There's
No life here after I just don't have a clue

But as I see it when the end comes
If your beliefs are true and mine are not
I'll be no worse off for believing while you
Will have eternity in a nice warm spot

Just Wait Another Day

I feel blessed to live in Ohio
In the autumn of the year
Enjoying the new season
the changes that appear

I sit under the maple tree
The leaves have turned red
And they flutter about me
And unto my flower bed

I need to get up and start
To put the furniture away
I just can't resist the urge
To just wait another day

Although its getting cooler
The sun still warms my soul
And my senses take it all in
These wonders I need to extol

So I go ahead and wait a day
What can it hurt I happily say
So over night we had a freeze
And today its rained all day

My USA

I've always been proud to be an American
And there is no place I'd rather be
But lately my heart has been heavy
With a real ache growing inside of me.

Many folks are unhappy with their lives
Hanging on even though their jobs are gone
Optomistically hoping for a brighter day
Asking themselves just went wrong

The politicians still spending the money
Rarely looking back home to Main Street
Will they decrease the deficit spending
Or just worry about keeping their seats

Never was there a need for the people
To take hold of the future of the USA
To communicate with their legislators
And cast Their votes on election day

Quality Care

Growing old once had some worth
Back when we so freely gave our love
It would now be returned to us in kind
This was true as the stars above

I never thought we'd be expendible
Ruled an unnecessary expense
Passed deeds don't count anymore
We're guilty we have no defense

In my mind my life is just as important
As everyone else deems theirs to be
If the time comes you feel I'm unworthy
Or invading your space just tell me

I love life and won't go without a fight
But if its futile I'll know it and pass on
If rationing folks care is in the cards
Your day will be coming after I'm gone

Everybody is Beautiful

When I look at you
I see God's wonderful creation
May your beauty always shine thru
Not this world's ugly contamination.

The Old Lady

There's an old woman
who lives in our town,
She never seems to smile
And no one comes around.

She just sits there rocking
On her big porch swing
And she looks into space
And doesn't see anything.

I walk by and smile
But she doesn't respond
her eyes are just focused
on something beyond.

I wish I knew her story and
Could make her smile back
But she's just lost some how
To something in her past.

Today I filled a thermos
with my favorite hot tea
took two pretty cups and saucers
some sugar and lemon with me.

I walked onto her porch
pulled up a table and a chair
Pored two cups of tea
And hoped she was aware

She looked at me in surprise
but lifted the cup to take a sip
Of my very good hot tea
And a smile came to her lips.

We sat silently drinking our tea,
Which now was getting cool.
I told her I had to depart and
And get the kids from school.

I saw a tear fill her eyes
And I said I'd come again.
And we could visit longer
And she loudly said: WHEN?

I know I'll go back to visit her
And get to know her better.
I really think she would like that
I'm really glad I met her.

Life's Storms

The winds came and stripped the trees
of the leaves of crimsome and gold
And left an urgent message that
It was time for Winter to take hold.

The beauty of nature is only surpassed
By it's harsh and unpredictable wrath.
One swoop can tear a tree up by its roots
And level everything else in it's path.

And like it had never been here at all
It leaves it's new landscape array
We'll thank God for each one's safety
And live to enjoy another glorious day.

Neighbors will all help with clean-up
And everyones does what they can
And maybe God gives us these times
So we remember how to give a hand.

The Bible

Even if you're not a true believer
In the greatest story ever told
You can't help but love the tales
Better ones have never been sold.

The humble birth of the son of God
In a manger at a rundown stable
His growing to practice his talent
Master carpenter was his label.

His church was simply anywhere
He could preach the word of God
And he had his devoted followers
His values they all were taught.

The brutal scene of his dying
Hanging bleeding from a cross
And the joy in His ressurection
Is worthy of everyone's applause.

There has never been a book
That lasted through all time
And even those who can't read
Have been quoted every line.

So I hope you will enjoy it too
And learn from every parable
There's some very good reading
It helps make life more bearable.

Ode to Rosalie

A beautiful rose of Texas
Is my special friend Rosalie.
She's funny and smart
On that you will agree.

We've shared laughter
and sad things too
Haven't always agreed
but my respect for her grew.

She's a very busy lady
You'll find her here or there.
But not at SE (they dumped her)
because her opinions they didn't share.

So if you come across her
she'll give you a friendly hello
Cause that's the way she is
Don't you know?

Dimentia

Where are you my long time friend
We were so close we talked everyday
Now you sit there rocking all the time
With a blank stare that won't go away

I try to touch your hand but you resist
You don't know or care who I am anymore
It breaks my heart to feel the rejection
Please come back we miss you I implore

And I think back on how it used to be
When we young and life was ahead
You were the most beautiful girl in class
Life was wonderful and nothing to dread

You had a smile that lit up the room
And eyes that sparkled of azure blue
You never passed up a chance to dance
You spread joy around to all you knew

We can never know what fate has instore
Or who will be the victim of a cruel destiny
Your here in my heart you will always be

Thanks For Lending An Ear To Me

Thanks for lending an ear to me
Paying attention to what I say
Not laughing at or reproaching
Or showing any signs of dismay

Even though I sometimes ranted
And was too stubborn to listen to
A point of view that was also valid
This was certainly not fair to you

But i've learned as I've grown older
Everything is not alway black and white
So the older I get the less I know and
That even you can sometimes be right

My little Black Dress

You come home every evening
Long enough to eat dinner
Then you go bowling or bar hopping
Or what ever it is you do
Never thinking about us

So I'm going out tonight
In my little black dress
With my push up bra
And my 3 inch heels
And I'm taking the wheels
Putting my makeup on
And soon I'll be gone

You can sit here and wonder
Just who's looking at me
As I have thought about you
Get your romance from a book
Same way I have too.

So I'm going out tonight
In my little black dress
With my push up bra
And my 3 inch heels
And I'm taking the wheels
Putting my makeup on
And soon I'll be gone

And when I get home
I'll kiss the kids goodnight
I'll be here for you tomorrow
But I got to find that person
That is now locked away inside

So I'm going out tonight
In my little black dress
With my push up bra
And my 3 inch heels
And I'm taking the wheels
Putting my makeup on
And soon I'll be gone

For Sharon and Chrissy

We're so sorry you're hurting my friend
We wish we could chase all the blues
We can give you a shoulder to cry on
And pray you receive good news

Our tears fall right along with yours
And our prayers are truely sincere
We wish We could give you a friendly hug
Removing any of your doubt and fear

We pray you have the needed strength
To hold to the faith that will be required
To keep love and hope in your heart
Even when your whole being is too tired

We will always be here to lend an ear
We hope the forum will be called upon
When you need company or prayers
We'll be here til the problem is gone

The Congressional Revue

The US Congressional Variety show
From The Watergate to Ticklegate
And you and I have front row seats
Should we laugh heartily or be irate?

From footsies under the lavatory stalls
To touching in the congretional baths
And the folks at home finally deciding
Not to keep paying for the crude laughs

Jobs are very hard to come by yet, one
Man holds up unemployment Extention
And hospitalization insurance waits for
Years to get their undivided attention

Folks taking deep cuts in pay that is if
They are still lucky enough tobe working
And most benefits are slowly diminishing
And Our futures are not too encouraging

The ones we've elected are paid very well
Benefits we the people can only wish for
But still the only allegiances they have are
Those who fill their election coffers with more

We need to put them on serious notice today
That their days in Washington are numbered
And make very sure its not an idle threat by
Picking candidates who are unimcumbered
