I have a question, i'll put it here for now-

I open this forum of DH's, like this one, and I don't see many options, not near as many as mine. I am missing something. When I go to lunar pages, I can't find much there either, I feel lost. There is a page pro quick something, but nothing about a sitebuilder. D said he got netscape web buildr free on web, I don't understand. With my website I get software to build the site, but this is somehow open to any kind of site builder..? I have office 97 with a page builder, but I don't know much.

How do you edit code on this forum, I don't see where. It doesn't have much, it must come from your web host data base ot some thing. Puling hair out, its hard to learn on my own. I just want to work on a page, now spend a year learning how to do this type. My LPX is so simple, and my forum. dontknow

Fishead, if you need any help, I would be more than happy to guide you through the process. Once you understand how it all works, it won't seem so bad. It's the journey that's scary...

I use SmartFTP to access and modify files, folders, and permissions on our FTP Server. It is free so you should download and install it on your PC. It works very much like Explore. If you need help setting it up, there are several experts here in this community who would be willing to help at any time. So don't hesitate to ask when you run into a problem with it...

Just don't let this overwhelm you. Take it one step at a time and remember that there are people here who are willing to help whenever there is a need. It just takes a little patience and determination to get through this...

I highly recommend 1st Page 2000 to use for your file editor. It is also free. First Page 2006 is now available too, but I am not sure how many bugs it will have. It is a total rewrite of 1st Page 2000 and it has been in development for many, many years. They rolled out a Beta a few months back that was loaded with problems. You might want to try both though...

Just take Baby Steps and you should be fine...

OK, first question, this is confusing -

Ok, I figure I need both, but don't understand the difference between modify files and file editor.

You don't remember the mb to download is do you? Maybe I could load on my laptop if its not too big.

SmartFTP is just under 3MB

Baby step one, I downloaded the FTP, I don't know what it is but I have it. I will download the other one later, I have to make a toon right now.

The FTP accesses the files on your web site. In the SS below, the phpBB2 folder shows all the files for these fourms. The Panel on the left shows your HDD.

I don't think I would ever attempt to teach anyone about the phpBB files but I did manage to learn how to work with my Web Site files and the pages I've built. If Blake can teach me he can teach anyone! LOL

I'm not sure what 1st Page 2006 looks like but 2000 comes in different levels and I use the Normal Level.

1st Page is an editor. Here you build your page or display a web page you already have on your site in code so you can change and add images, text, colors, etc. You can then view the changes in a 1st Page window or your browser. If you're satisfied with what you have you Save it and upload it to your site via Smart FTP.

I am still on the FTP part, I can't log in or do anything, I get "URL not supported".

Veiw/ selection group/ gives me some options, one is to add a password, it had box to enable, but I don't think thats anything I need. In that showed a navigation menu though.

I went into forum admin, I open the ftp, now what do I do?

OK I just tried again, I added the url and signed in and get the same thing, "URL not supported". http://catch-n.com/forums

What do I log in with, it askes for server? I tired my server sign in etc., it says cannot, quit, closed etc. I typed in other addresses, like my website and same thing. I also get an erro message saying file missing. Think i'll give up for the day.

Fishead, the http:// is not part of a supported FTP server addy. Often times, the FTP addy looks something like this: ftp.yourdomain.com. You can try just leaving off the http:// part and see what happens. I have seen that work a few times too...
