Something has apparently gone terribly wrong with the network file and print sharing services for Windows XP, 2000, and Server 2003. (The flaw also affects Vista and Server 2008, but less severely.) Microsoft is not only issuing an out-of-cycle patch for the first time since April 2007, it's fixing a critical flaw that hasn't been reported by any of the usual suspects in the security community. So it must be HUGE. .......

Well I had the update icon sitting in the system tray for a couple of days and today I went ahead and installed it.  So far nothing terrible has happened.

Keeping my fingers crossed.  I hope it set a restore point before it updated.

Why, they're set automatically everyday anyway? I mean you can go back to any day you want. Setting the day is mostly so you can choose a day that you know is a good time, like after you installed something and don't want to re-install it again.

Nope.  For some reason there is not a new restore point set each day.  Only when there is an update or new install.

The dates in bold have restore points only.  I guess it would make sense not to create a restore point if nothing new has happened.

Mine does everyday too. Why do you reset every month? Oh wait you have vista I think, that is screwy. I had trouble with it on my desktop before I switched to xp, it kept saving dublicate files in recovery, it was stupid and ended up crashing (HD filled up from) so bad I had to reformat. I switched to xp a very short time later. I use vista on laptop but haven't even looked at recovery yet since its just an internet computer.

I haven't used recovery in years to remember, on my main pc anyway. I may have tried it on my old laptop last year but I seldom need it.
