Install and reinstall. Not too sure of all the terms that go with the two but "clean reinstall" sound like you would first wipe the hard drive whereas a "reinstall" is more of a repair of what you already have. A repair can save all your stuff. If you want to start with a blank partition on which to install your system be sure to back up what you want to keep.
Other than doing the back up doing a clean install is pretty much handled by the CD you put in the tray.
Here are some links (and I'm sure there are many more out there) you might want to read before you start just to get a handle on what will happen. The first one seems like the best to me.
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/operatingsystems/ss/instxpclean1.htm
http://www.theeldergeek.com/clean_installation_of_windows_xp.htm
http://www.theeldergeek.com/xp_home_install_-_graphic.htm
If none of that answers your question post again with more detail about what you have and what you want to do.

The way it works for my xp computers is you put the xp disc in and then restart pc and thats all there is to it.
It then will install xp, you will need click ok a few times, or press enter. Its kindof fun. I just did it, lol. I plan on doing it on another pc soon. Actaully, I reformatted 3 times this year. Once on my laptop, once with vista and I just dumped vista and installed xp and I'm just loving xp over vista.
If you don't have your recovery disc/discs, you will need to make a set first. |

Why do you want to reinstall your OS, Katy? Are you having major problems? Sometimes reinstalling the last Service Pack helps fix a few minor problems.

| sometimes reformatting is the only way to get rid of problems. I've heard people say you should do it every two years and thats pretty much what I do. I have problems that just won't go away, so I plan to reformat and buy a new dvd burner and see if I can get things back to normal. My new computer is so fast and so powerfull, makes me realize thats what the older one needs, a new start and get rid of buried spyware, corrupt files and files I can't seem to brave deleting. It will also help narrow down the problems, if it doesn't help than I have hardware problems. Messing with all those video convertors really messed it up so it needs it regardless of hardware problems. |

| It seemed like everything was going out on me first my printer wouldn't install, then my updates wouldn't install then the WMP went.. I got tired of trying to fix them. So I did an install and everthing fell right back into place... Glad I did it... It's working like brand new.... And thanks to both of you for the help.... |
