I'm all frustated, I tried several times to get listed in dmoz but it kept giving me an error saying the number I typed didn't match, at the end of the long process. After messing around refreshing and refilling out the page over and over I finally figured out what the deal is, it is run by netscape so they are rejecting me since I'm not useing netscape. They must think thats funny to waste peoples time and frustrating people. Jerks. I never did like netscape.
The only other thing it could be is since the numbers were unreadable, I had to try three times and they then rejected every atempt thererafter not telling me they are jerking me around. In that case, they just dumbasses for showing unreadable numbers and letters and trouble makers. Ya, thats why I have always hated netscape, they can't be trusted. I would rather use ms Theyre bad, but not as bad as netscape. |

Dave do you get an error message or a message telling you why your submission is being rejected?
How to Get Listed in the DMOZ Directory
I'm a little confused. As an internet consultant specializing in search engine optimization, I believe that it is a good idea to submit your site to DMOZ (a.k.a. ODP or the Open Directory Project) --in fact, Google even encourages you to do so! However, being an ODP editor myself, I can tell you from personal experience that perhaps only 10-20% of all the site suggestions we receive actually follow our guidelines...
This is a pity, not only because it wastes the time of the ODP's volunteer editors, but also because it severely reduces the odds of your site being listed within a reasonable amount of time! So, for the benefit of all Workers of the Web, this article will show you how to suggest your site the right way. I will walk you through the Guidelines and point out things that typically go wrong.
The print appears kind of small on my PC, using Firefox, but you can enlarge that in IE by going to Tools > Text Size > Larger

No rb, the error was saying I typed in the number/text code box, what do you call the....
anyway I think you know what I mean, you have to try to read the letters and numbers and type it in. Now the code was like 45567l, now the l could be a small L, or it could be a 1, or it could be an i, but since the style they use really distorts the view, I had to guess, so I tried l.
Rejected, said go back and try again, or refresh page and get a new encryted code. So I tried 1, nope, said go back and try again. So I just refreshed the page and got a new encrypted code, couldn't make it out, so refreshed and got another, still couldn't read it so I got yet another and this time I was sure it was right, so I had to fill everything out all over again and guess what? It said I didn't get the code right and to try again. Now I am angry and just typed in a new site description with one word and then I got an error saying they don't except small cases at beginning of sentence and so I fixed and again I tried and was rejected saying my encrypted code was wrong. By now I knew it was a sick game be some ahole outfit that likes to cause trouble and think its funny.
There was no error. The error was I wasn't using netscape browser. That is why they reject so many but they can't tell you that because they could probably get sued for forcing their software on you, unfair business practices.
The funny thing is I signed up for yahoo in 30 seconds flat and the same with alexa, that took 20 seconds. I spent 20 minutes in netscape/AOL dmoz and didn't get anywhere.
I just never did forgive netscape for the trouble they have caused me long ago. Yahoo likes to do the same type thing, infiltrate your computer but at least they offer a heck of a lot more and they can be uninstalled. And they don't jerk you around, they except websites in seconds. |

Submission Received
Your site submission has been received.
An editor will review your submission for inclusion in the directory.
Once your site has been accepted into the Open Directory, it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for your site to be listed on partner sites which use the Open Directory data, such as AOL Search, AltaVista, HotBot, Google, Lycos, Netscape Search, etc. We make updates of the data available weekly, but each partner has their own update schedule.

Ok I think it was giving me a false error yesterady because I wasn't going far enough in catagories. I was just now fine tuned to a subcatagory that really doesn't describe my site. I was trying to use "frshwater fishing' yesterday but today I went one level deeper and used walleye, which just isn't right since I do freshwater fishing cartoons. Anyway, it will be a long time before I hear anything. What an outfit. BTW, it worked first time. Seems shady. |

| Sorry I got so angry but they really stressed me out. There was no error last night. I will give them this much, it was a bug in the program and not deliberatly trying to ... jerk me around. They need to work on getting the bugs out. |
