Pentagon was hacked, some say by China
Hackers breached Pentagon computers, including an unclassified email system in the Secretary of Defense’s office, the Pentagon revealed Tuesday, according to a Reuters report.
The security breach occurred late last spring when Defense Department monitors detected the penetration of “elements of an unclassified e-mail system” that was immediately taken off line, Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman told reporters. “There was never any threat to the classified systems,” Whitman said.
“There was no disruption to (defense) operations or adverse impact to ongoing operations that the department was conducting … all precautionary measures were taken and the system was restored to service,” he said.
The Financial Times reported Monday that current and former officials said “with a very high level of certainty” that China’s People’s Liberation Army was responsible.

China rejects U.S. charge it hacked Pentagon
China on Tuesday rejected a report that hackers controlled by its military had successfully entered a Pentagon network, calling the claim a product of "Cold War" thinking.
The Financial Times, citing former and serving U.S. officials, said Chinese People's Liberation Army hackers broke into a U.S. Defense Department network in June, taking data and prompting the shutdown of a system serving Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.
The report came a week after German Chancellor Angela Merkel raised similar claims that Chinese hackers had infected German government ministries with spying programs.
China deflected the German reports, and now it has flatly rejected the U.S. claims, as well as denying reports that Chinese-made weapons have been used by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan.

well they would be pretty dumb if they admitted it. Like the human rights abuses, they deny, deny deny. Now another recall of lead painted toys. They probably deny that too.
I know after I reformatted my laptop it runs ten times faster, I had somethingssss in here screwing things up. |
