Penelope Releases

The first BETA release of Penelope (Eudora 8.0.0b1) is now available for download.
Eudora 8.0.0 beta includes Eudora's toolbar icons, keyboard shortcuts, and menu structure, among other things.
You can easily import mailboxes and messages from Eudora or from Thunderbird. There's also an option to import filters from Eudora, although this won't work with every filter as Thunderbird doesn't use the same structure as Eudora.
Are you going to give it a test spin, Nightrider?

All it is is Thunderbird with Eudora in the name. I don't see much difference between Eudora 8 beta and Thunderbird. What's the benefit of using Eudora 8 over Thunderbird???

Eudora 8 is Thunderbird, not Eudora. If Netscape suddenly became Thunderbird in disguise, would you consider it to be the same and update???

Well if you don't mind if your program is Thunderbird in disguise, I see no good reason why you wouldn't simply use Thunderbird...
If I wanted to use Eudora 8, I would simply start using Thunderbird instead since there really is very little difference...

No. I use Thunderbird. It's Netscape in disguise. There is very little difference between the Netscape email client and Thunderbird. Since I started using Firefox for a browser, which doesn't have an email client, in place of Netscape I figured I may as well switch my email over to the free standing Thunderbird.
They both work great and I don't get all that hassle with Java or Flash like I did sometimes with Netscape. They really dropped the ball with Netscape. When they came up with Netscape 7 with no email I think they lost most of their fans.

Well Eudora 7 is nothing like Thunderbird. So now that Eudora 8 is Thunderbird is a very slight disguise, people might as well be using Thunderbird rather than upgrading to Eudora 8. I see no reason to stick with Eudora for those planning to update. They might as well use Thunderbird...
I'm sticking with Eudora 7. If I want to use Thunderbird, it is installed as well...
