I have had this virus for about a month and my anti-spyware program couldn't find it, so i googled it and what do ya know I found a solution,
just follow the instructions of removal and it works like a charm:

http://www.spyware-removal-guideline.com/virusprotectpro-removal

"VirusProtect Pro is related to Fake Antispyware. It is any malware removal application that is silently installed without user consent trying to profit by the occasion. VirusProtectPro is being spread by the trojan. There is a possibility of getting the infection while browsing the internet, even though you did not perform any downloads. You can easily identify trojan by an extra icon in the taskbar, occasionally popping the balloon and warning that that the computer is infected. VirusProtectPro will not clean and protect your system from spyware, adware, trojans and other malicious programs, furthermore it is fooling computer user with its fake malware detection and analyzer tools. Thus it is trying to terrify the owner with it's corrupt alerts forcing victim to buy licensed version. Many people believe that spending money on corrupt and worthless tools will solve their problems. Far from it... Buying licensed version will NOT settle computer foul-up plus the computer will stay infected as long as trojan is removed by yourself of by allowing secure anti-spyware tool to do that. So keep in mind: if any suspicious application, pretending of the spyware removal program is trying to penetrate into the system, try searching the internet for the reviews to enrich your knowledge and to protect the system from the intruders."

Thanks for posting this, Dan!  I have not heard of this one before.  I have just recently gotten a taste of web sites attempting to install a trojan on my PC.  AVG popped up to tell me a trojan had been downloaded to my machine and asked what I wanted to do with it.  Happened twice now.   Dang these SOBs are getting evil.

So was that scan and removal free?  Some of these places tell you it will scan your system for free but after the scan they tell you how many viruses or trojans you have and then want you to buy the program to get rid of them.

Thanks for this Dan.  Luckily I haven't had a problem with this.  Even though my anti-virus program is old, it seems to do a good job keeping my PC clean from threats like this, knock on wood...

Applause

I got something like that on my laptop. It was maddening so I reformatted. I couldn't find anyway to remove it by googling, nothing worked so I nuked it out.

You guys read carefully what he is saying.

Yeah, Dave, that's the point.  That VirusProtectPro apparently installs on it's own when you visit certain pages.  It appears to be a GOOD GUY program warning you about a possible virus problem but actually IT IS THE PROBLEM!  If you follow the instruction it give it will not clean your system it will infect it instead.

VirusProtectPro is installed by a trojan!!

Yep, I have Webroot Spysweeper, which has stopped numerous virus' and Trojan's from my computer, but this virus protect pro got passed it, on the site I posted, the download of the program is free, its not an anti-virus program like AVG or Spysweeper, its just a program you run from your desktop, no installation needed and it wipes the virus protect pro stuff and then that's it, you can delete the program from your desktop  blob8
