I don't use a temperature monitoring program but there are a lot of free ones out there you can download and install.  Usually they are set to start up when you turn your machine on and an icon is displayed in the system tray.

A lot depends on whether or not your motherboard has sensors to monitor temps and fan speeds, most do.  And too whether they are enabled or not.  You can find this information in the BIOS.  If I remember right mine shows the temp for the system and CPU and the speed of two or three fan.  I think only two fans in my case.

I do have two or three programs that give all type of system information but the only one that displays  the temps and fan speeds is Aida32
