OK, I'm ready to take a hammer to something, maybe my head. Starting another thread the other got too long.
I uninstalled Nero7 (sure hated to see that program go) and it didn't help with my DVD problem. I STILL GET THE ERROR: Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied.
NOW, I can't play my DVD at all! Real Player says it needs a component and I allow it to install it but then it says to be sure there is a DVD player installed.
I have uninstalled the DVD burner and reinstalled
Windows media says I need DVD software
Jet Audio says there is no DVD Decoder!
Where do I get a DVD Decoder??? Someone please help me, I'm hanging on tightly to the one last nerve I have left.

K, I downloaded and installed the free Zoom Player which they say comes with DVD Decoder that will work with any player. Apparently Zoom won't play the DVD, need the professional version? Won't play for me anyway.
But NOW Jet Audio WILL launch and play the DVD when I put it in the tray. And I no longer get the error!
Yahooo!
Don't really understand what's happened to my DVD burner/player, it's been ages since I've played a DVD but when I first got it I know good and well Real Player launched and played DVDs.

That box I said you need to uncheck in nero is right on the front, right side in a secodary window, I think you see it after you burn a disc, or when you are about to. It is so wrong, it wouldn't let me play a game or do anything with any other program. But since you uninstalled it I don't know, I guess it could have still left everything locked out when after it was gone.
When you put a dvd in, what happens? Are you prompted to choose a program to open with?
Or does it automatically open a player or does it just stall out and do nothing?
You may need to configure which program to open the dvd, right click on any movie and click "open with". then choose to use that program all the time. |

Oh ya, I had trouble with that REAL player and I had to remove it. It conflicted with other players or something, I had problems, it tried to take over like so many programs do.
I have "My DVD" I can watch movies with, my roxios each have one, a few movie editors have players, but I just use wmp. |

As near as I can figure out there wasn't a DVD decoder available for the other players. Only Nero ShowTime would play a DVD. Maybe Nero did lock up the decoder for itself who knows. When I uninstalled it I guess it took the decoder along because afterwards still none of the other players would play the DVD. In addition to Add and Remove Program I had to use two tools from Nero's site to remove everything.
Bobby: I have Jet Audio 6.1.4.6317 and yes it does burn and play back DVD, but I read somewhere that it doesn't come with a DVD decoder you have to have a 3rd party DVD decoder on your machine. I have used it to burn disc, convert music and record my voice in the past. All worked perfect.

Fishead: What was happening .....When I put a DVD in the tray nothing would open and I would get the error: Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied. If I opened Nero Show Time the DVD would start playing just beautifully.
No other player would display the DVD no matter what I did, changed or configured.
You said to right click on any movie and choose a player: I HAD NO PROBLEM PLAYING ANY MOVIE FILES ON MY PC. Just couldn't get playback from a DVD.
Apparently the lack of a DVD decoder was the problem and the free Zoom player came with a universal DVD decoder that will work on any player. NOW when I insert a DVD JetAudio will launch and play the DVD because I have JetAudio registered to do that. However, if I shut down JetAudio and open Real Player it will play the DVD also.
Dave, I run W2K and I don't have the same programs, files or listings you have, there is no Video folder in Programs and I don't have WinDVD installed.
I think I pretty well have the problem solved now and I guess I can live without Nero, heaven knows I have plenty of programs that will burn a CD or DVD! LOL

This is interesting!! LOL.
I don't have a Dell or the player they are talking about here but sure sounds a little like what happened to me. I just wonder if maybe one of the M$ updates or patches wasn't responsibe for me losing the DVD decoder. Nero may have not been at fault after all.
Why can’t I watch a DVD I paid for?

Rb, I have no great love for M$ or nero, I am only interested in solutions. My roxio had conflicting problems, could be M$ but bottom line it conflicted. Well they fixed it and now there is no problem. Nero is still trying to iron out the problems, and I'm sure they will but its not soon enough. There is so many softwares now all trying to muscle each other out, and we are in the middle, as I've said before.
Anyway, bottom line as far as nero, they lied to me and took advantage of me, and thats now mentioning all the problems I had. If it had worked, I too would like it, but it didn't and I am still a little angry for them not telling me the truth. One lie was I asked several times for a lightscribe burner without the nero attached, and they told me several times there was none, but they were lieing, I found the software. This is like a scam, in nero the lightscibe is a huge icon to burn label, on the regular version you can get for free on the internet (and I did already have it with the dvd burner I bought thats when nero was forced on me) only it is not a large icon but rather a tiny hard to find text link to burn. That still makes me mad, I don't like being fooled with. Of course they aren't the only ones, I have a beef with quicktime, and lately I am putting my HP scanner back on and talk about junk! It works but likes to take over all media files.
Believe me, I will tell the truth as I see it, I don't take sides. I talked bad about roxio for a long time but now they have all their bugs out, and they didn't try to lie to me, misslead me, or try take over and lock everything else out. Roxio works fine with windows and everything else. Only nero would'nt get along with my other programs. Windows is another one that has always locked others out, but windows is windows and nero is coming into the picture in the same manner, fighting the whole way. |
