A few minutes ago I rebooted my PC and when it came back on I had a window saying that it was unable to open file # XXXXXXXXXX. I would have to go to Help and Support to learn how to Manually restart it. I never could find the information that I needed but I did find a message that Windows Defender Beta would expire on 12-31-06. (see SS)
I reinstalled Windows Defender and had an icon in the SystemTray briefly but it went away quickly. Is Windows Defender not available any more?

YES! As one who recognizes yammering when he sees it I agree.
But...............I found a solution to restoring my Windows Defender. I went to Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > Win Defender and clicked on the "Repair" option and it restored itself! I now have Win Defender again, I think.
But again.......maybe not because I lost my Win Defender icon from my StstemTray again. Back to work again. Can I not D/L it again?
Does it really mean this?

| OK. I went to the Add/remove section of Control Panel and removed the existing version of Win Defender. I then Installed a new version (v 1593) of Win Defender. It is in my list of programs but will not put an icon in my SystemTray. How can I put an icon there? |

I'm not familar with Defender, can you launch it? Does it offer Options or Preferences? You may be able to choose if you want the icon in the tray.

OK I finally foind the tools area where I specify when I want an icon displayed. The options are "When spyware is detected" or "Always". I've got it how I want it now. Thanks.
