I'm changing to ix web hosting in the next few days. Normally I get my ex moderator to help but he isn't near his computer much now.
I'm not sure how to go about this. I want to move my site so there is very little disruption to my site. I may have to disable the board for a time while everything is moved.
I was yold to ask ix if I could transfer the entire site and this is what they said

Hi Aussie. Welcome aboard! LOL
Not sure exactly how Blake did it although I did help some because I have high speed connection and the move was much quicker that way. At any rate Blake had the forum moved and working before anyone know what happened.
I'm sure he will be glad to help you and will tell you more when he comes online.

I'd be happy to help you Glenn...
To make the move seemless or nearly so, you would copy everything from your current server to your new server, maintaining the exact same directory structure. Then you would populate the new database with the data from the old. As soon as you are sure that the new forum is working perfectly, you would transfer your DNS settings to the new host. Since the DNS settings can take up to 48 hours to propogate around the world, some members may be posting on the old while others are posting in the new even though they are using the same URL to your board. Once you are sure that all members are looking at the board on the new server, then you can syncrhonize the databases to make sure all new posts on the old board appear in the new. So there should be a minimal disruption at worst....

I just received an email notice that you might be bringing down the site for this move. There really is no need to do that though. In fact, there is no need to rush this. It is better to take your time and make sure all the T's are crossed and the I's dotted before changing the DNS settings to the new server. So it could take several days to make the move and if done correctly, there should be almost NO downtime at all...
