New windows browser is great! I love it so far. It as lots of new features. It is now sort of like firefox, only much better, they got it right and no spycams and junk emails follow.
I would highly recomend trying it. and you paid for it so no special deals have top be made where you get your email handed out to spammers, and no spycams tracting your every move and sending reports as soon as you boot up, run and shutdown everytime.
Since I uninstalled firefox, quicktime and nero, my pc is back to normal, lightning fast bootups, restarts and shutdowns; they only take seconds, not minutes, and my little light on pc doesn't flicker for 5 minutes after bootup, showing activity, which is all these spammers getting reports. |

Dave, do you have a firewall? Zone Alarm is a good one, I have used it for years. Get the free version.

| Didn't mean to get on your nerves rb, but I do like it better than firefox. Just makes me mad what these softwares are really doing with their "free" stuf, and sometimes they make deals with other companies to force their stuff on people, like nero and my new dvd burner. Also watch out for volenyeering to help software, like even google has one, they trransfer data all day long, tracking your every move, and so if a machine won't shut down right away they are probably waiting for data on where you were being transfered to spammers. |

That's why I mentioned the firewall. A good firewall will prevent anything from getting TO your machine or FROM it unless you know about or have given it permission. Zone Alarm is the first thing I install on a new install even before connectiong to the internet. I would not be without one.

Don't you use windows firewall? Thats the first thing I turn on after reformat. Last year I tried getting on line after reformat without the firewall just to see what happened, and lots of stuff happened, like virouses etc.
Why does your machine take so long to shut down? Mine, when I shut down, it will be off before I can get up and get out of the room. It was that firefox that changed that for the worse, but now I fixed it by uninstalling them. I couldn't believe it, all the companies firefox had me connected to without my permission or knowledge of, shame on them. they're the worsed I've ever seen.
You have helped me alot lately rb, and it is you that has my pc working better than ever, so I don't mean to disrespect, and I did try FFox for a week, and I also tried nero for several weeks, so its not personal or just hip shots, I just have a big mouth when it comes to software companies playing dirty. Also, it was your recomended spyboot that found them. You have to read the fine print to see who added them, and firefox was behind 27 of them. |

Dave, I run W2K and it doesn't come with a firewall. Not that I mind, I probably wouldn't use it anyway, I like and trust Zone Alarm I have been using it for years. Ella has XP and the Windows firewall but still she got a Trojan downloader that did her machine in.
The thing about the Window's firewall is that is suppose to stop traffic TO your PC but not OUT. If you get spyware downloaded along with some program or a site you visit there is nothing to prevent it from contacting the outside world.
Here is a good site that has all kinds of good tips and help for all types of Operating Systems. I have it on the Windows firewall page if you want to read more about it but there is a lot of other good links on that site. I really like it.

I loved ZoneAlarm, esp the cookie part where you could clean them without losing the ones you wanted to keep.
When I went DSL SBC told me I had to uninstall it because they had a firewall in their hardware that was much stronger than ZA and that with both I would never get my 3 inhouse network to connect.
I really don't believe them but havn't had time to figure it out. |

Jaddon, do you know just what programs are loaded when Windows starts? Sometimes there are many that don't need to start when Windows loads. Install this little program to see what starts and you can uncheck those things you don't need to start up at boot.
CodeStuff Starter
Also you might want to install this little utility to help with shut down, it doesn't install in Programs it installs in Services. My PC now shuts down within 20 seconds, often in 8 seconds.
Why Windows takes so long to shut down.

I wouldn't believe them either. You ought to try running ZA and see what happens. I would not trust their firewall to protect you...
