My Tooltips have disappeared!
I'm talking about the little box that pops up when you hover your mouse on an icon in the tool bar or system tray. I can make two or three tooltips appear in one of the tool bars sometimes like this:
However I can't get even one tooltip to appear in the system tray. That in itself wouldn't be the worse thing in the world but I can no longer get the DATE to display when I hover the cursor over the TIME!
The last thing I did was install the new AVG, not really sure if that's what caused it, I noticed the missing tooltips this evening.
Anyone have a solution? Anyone install the new AVG and experience the same thing?

WTG RB!! That means Way To Go, RB. My nieces and Grandchildren use that shortcut language on their Aol MSN and those other talk sites and now they can't even send an understandable e-mail to me. I refuse to start learning that "New English" that they use. I spent too many years being taught by Nuns and being rapped on my knuckles when I was wrong to start changing to a new language now. I have been tempted tro post one of my Grandaughter's e-mail to me to show you what I mean. Well here it is anyway. Notice how terrible how her spelling and punctuation is. She did get the two most important parts right: "I love you" and PawPaw.
HEy Pawpaw! Yes i went home with Tiffany this afternoon & i dont have any service out there...but i called u back & left u a message! But Yes i know My Birthday will be here really soon! Christmas too! Yea um I need 2 call u ...i could call u 2morrow on the way 2 morrilton b/c i wont be home till 12am & then saturday im going 2 Bossier city, Loisianna all day...but i havent even thought about my bday or christmas...i have been sOO busy..but i only have 2 weeks left of marching & it will all slow down! But um ill think abotu it & get back 2 You about christmas & my birthday...but i need 2 get a shower...But I Love yall!
Luv always

That's not too bad, I could read it. I've seen a lot worse.

WTG, RB! Glad you got your Tooltips back!
There's a setting in Folder Options (Tools dropdown menu in Windows Explorer) in XP. It's toward the bottom of the list in the View tab:
"Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items."
Dunno how that might've gotten unchecked, but it might have fixed the problem. If already checked, uncheck and okay your way out, then go in there again, and check it and okay your way out. Then see if you have the date pop-up again.
I lost mine some time ago... can't remember what I did to get 'em working again. Probably rebooted. <G> |

bigR, I think we are talking about two different things. I don't have that feature, you mention checked, I don't want it. I know what you're talking about and it different from the the tooltips that appear when you mouse over the icons in the system tray.
From what I've read on the WWW there doesn't seem to be a setting anywhere for tooltips. I was told that in XP they do come and go sometimes and usually a reboot takes care of it. I run W2K and a reboot didn't do it nor another suggestion of going to programs, right clicking on any program and chooseing Sort By Name.
I worked at it for quite a while before choosing to restore the registry. The restore solve it right away. I also deleted the last backup and made a new restore copy.
