Microsoft reaches out to Firefox developers
The head of Microsoft's open-source business has offered to help get Firefox to work with Windows Vista, but it remains to be seen whether Mozilla and the open-source community will respond positively.
Sam Ramji, the director of Microsoft's open-source software lab, posted an open invitation for them to work with the software giant on a Mozilla development discussion group mailing list Monday.
"I'm writing to see if you are open to some 1:1 support in getting Firefox and Thunderbird to run on Vista," Ramji wrote. Mozilla oversees the development of the open-source Firefox Web browser and Thunderbird e-mail client.
You think the idea might be that if Vista has problems they want to make sure the open-source programs will too!? LOL

| Might be to see where the Mozilla project is headed, so MS can try to give IE the same capabilities, but within the OS so that Mozilla has a harder time coding the features. Or something. |

M$ has a history of "partnering" up with companies, temporarily, then stealing the technology and killing the competing product. The Open Source community has good reason to be suspicious. If there is a problem with Vista that prevents other non-M$ programs from working with it, it is M$ duty to publish the changes so that developers can adjust to the new environment. It sounds like Vista may not be backward compatible or else Firefox running on XP should also be able to run in Vista...
