I don't know what causes this problem or just how many PCs it would effect, I haven't read the forum yet but I have not experienced any problems with it.  I have opened and closed it many times and viewed pages with Java, so far I have not experienced any problems.   Have any of you?

Firefox has problems…

Firefox 1.5 has been officially released, my older version of Firefox notified me and downloaded the update by itself.  To be honest there isn’t much difference to previous versions in a day to day use, however there are some problems…  Since the update my notebook has inexplicably crashed, and quite often slows down considerably.  It took me a little while to attribute these problems to Firefox, it was only while trying to track back and see what may have changed that I realised it could be Firefox.  Reading the support forums and newsgroups it seems many others are having similar problems—If you are using the previous version without problems then I wouldn’t bother upgrading just yet!

Nope, no problems here. The puzzles are all Java applets, and I've had no problems with or from those. I play some Shockwave games, too, and they've all worked fine... knock on wood.

Yep, I imagine that some of the add-ons and extras that were developed for 1.0x are causing the problems.  So those who don't completely uninstall the "extra" goodies and/or the previous version of Firefox are running into problems.  However, when I installed Thunderbird 1.5, it told me that it couldn't use the skins that I had been using and offered to upgrade any that had been modified to work with 1.5.  Unfortunately the skin I chose to use in Thunderbird isn't available yet...

My Firefox acted weirdly yesterday.  I didn't have time to mess with and just left it and haven't been back since but I DID install over the old and since mine was sooo old that may be the problem.  When I have the time I think I will uninstall everything including the settings and start fresh.

K, I uninstalled Firefox and deleted the folder in Program Files that was left with some component in it.  Installed new copy and gave it a darn good testing out!   Seems perfect.

I had to reinstall a couple of plugins since I deleted the old folder but that was no problem, installed on the fly.

Working great!
