anyway this can be done to see who has been chatting in a chat room with someone, in the past?

if so please lmk and or if there is any type of software to buy to help in tracing this information? thanks, peggy

I could be wrong, but I doubt that there is any program that can be installed to retrieve Chat information from the past. There is software that you can add to track future Chat discussions though. That sounds a bit intrusive though...

If it bothers you what she is chatting about, why not move her PC into your room so that you can watch the discussions over her shoulder? That seems to be a bit more honest than spying on her chat sessions after the fact. Are you going to tell her that you are going to be doing something like this or is it going to be a secret???

doesnt bother me, she knows the rules of being online...... there is a person/pedofile who contacted my child and without me getting her upset and dragging the whole thing out..etc....... i was attempting to trace back and see what i could find.... most likely ill contact a few detective friends n have them work on this with me... and again, thanks for the help. peg

You need to teach your daughter to only talk to friends in her chat sessions and not accept chat from strangers. It might be good to warn her that there are people who can't be trusted and may not be who they claim to be. If she has a pedofile chatting with her, she needs to know what she did wrong and why so that she doesn't repeat the mistake again...

How did you find out that she had been chatting with a pedofile???

Oh my sorry to here that happened to your daughter! I sure hope you have spoken to her about safety rules on chatting! I would not spy on her behind her back, what I do with my daughter is I set her im's to keep a record of all her chats, she knew this! I also set her im's so only those that she put into her buddy list could im her. She also knows I did this. I only look at her past im's when she ask me to, if someone gives her a bad time she comes to me about it.

Also be careful of forums that they join, my daughter joined a few, and met some other kids on them. One she even became very close to, and she started talking on the phone with him. What we did was talk to his parents to make sure it was another kid and not an adult man. My husband had a nice chat with the kid and the kids Dad as I did with the Mom - they where very nice about it, also turned out that they had the same concerns about their son talking with my daughter - they worried that she could of been an adult man pretending to be a young girl. Online you never know who you are talking to.

When my son was younger (about 14) an adult woman started trouble with him she even talked dirty to him, he showed me all the chats and I contacted her myself - I ended up talking with the woman’s husband and I let him know that I was not at all happy with the way his wife was talking to my 14 year old, lets just say she never bothered him again!

Talking to your kids does make a big difference! Respect their feelings and they will come to you. I always told my kids that if they ever wanted to meet anyone from online to let us know and my husband and I would go with them to ensure their safety! I find it’s better to allow your kids to do things with you, then to forbid it only to have them sneak off and put them self in danger!

hi folks thanks for the concern:) me n k do have a very open relationship, she knows the rules n so do i, this was a 1 time incident where he contacted her, and attempted ............
this is also on a "paid childrens website"- she did indeed tell me what he said n then quickly x-ed off the box.....

i spoke to a detective , filed a report and they r going to work with me, the website n k's computer to catch this person..... so for this im glad he will be caught....

Something to worry about that's for sure Peg. I'm sure every generation has had something that was a danger to their chilldren, that part isn't new. But I also think the danger becomes greater with each generation.

These days someone several states away can zero in on you or your child with just a few clues and clicks of the mouse. I have found out long ago there just isn't anything private or secure on the PC if you're connected to the WWW. It can be scarey.
