I have the Quicktime and Hp Printer icons in my systemtray and would like to remove them and not have then running. They are not in my Startup folder or in my System Configuration Utility. When I right click and click exit they go away but only till the next time that I reboot. I don't want to remove the programs, just stop them from running until I need them.

Download and install Starter. You can manage all the programs that launch at start up. Disable the ones you don't want to start on boot up. When you have it installed click on All Selecton at the top on the left. All programs will be displayed on the right..

didn't do it Rosalie because you didn't say "please, pretty please with sugar on it". Just kidding> LOL. I'm so used to doing what I'm told that I do waht I'm told without any questions. When growinf up it was my Mom and Aunts, after that it was superior officers in the military, then my boss at work, then after getting married it was my wife, next it was my kids telling me what to do and now my Moderator and Spiritual Leader and personality Guidance Councellor here at RCF. I have become just a mindless but obedient drone. Thanks for the help Oh Wonderful One.

Great, Bobby. So let us know what you think of the program. There are inquiring minds that want to know.

Well I haven't figured it out yet. Quicktime and HP Deskjet 6500 Series are not listed in the startup programs. Those are the two that are automatically putting icons in my System tray on startup. If you get any ideas please let me know how to stop them from loading. Thanks.

That's strange. Both my printer and QuickTime are listed in CodeStuff Starter.
Bobby are you sure you have clicked All Sections and NOT Startup Folders?

You're right Rosalie. I was not clicking on "All Sections". I found it and it worked perfectly. Thanks.

Bobby, sometimes looking at the file or program name is like reading greek, it's so far removed from the actual name of the program, and you can be left wonder what the heck is that program anyway!
Here is a very good site that is helpful in that area, it lists tons of programs, files and explains what they are and give advice. Starter does that to some extent also but this is even better. Have a look at it and bookmark it for future use.
