Aussie,   do you have dial up or DSL?   With DSL it should not take hours.  A 32MB download should be done well under an hour.

Something IS wrong.

Yeah I have DSL . My forum is located in the main directory of public_html so that is what I am downloading. And I think it is larger than 32mb, actually when I last saw it it was around 70+

If I give you my ftp details do you think you could log in and take a look?

If you are using SmartFtp's Global Queue option, you shouldn't have had to start over from the beginning just because of a power outage.  Weren't all the files and folders remaining to download still in SmartFtp's Transfer Queue list???

dontknow

No there wasn't. It's still running and says there's 46 items remaining

That really sucks.  You could have looked to see what had been downloaded onto your PC, then removed them from the download list so you wouldn't have to start over again...

Does it appear to be going any faster now?  The other admin was having trouble with her download from her old site too and she is using broadband.  I wonder if your problems are any way related?  She says that the download goes gungho for a bit, then almost stops.  So she came to the conclusion that her host was limiting how much data can be transferred per hour.  Her host that she is leaving is extremely restrictive on other things, so her theory seemed plausible...

Not sure. It gets down to about 30 items then jumos back to 40 and at one point it jumped back up to 80

So how did the other admin fix it?

Sandie is just being patient and letting the download go at its own pace.  It took me 2 days on dial-up to download her forum from her previous host, so there was a lot to download.  You may be in the same boat...

The reason it is probably jumping around is because SmartFtp is not counting sub-folders in the folders that it hasn't opened yet.  If you watch it, it will open the folder and download everything inside of it.  Then it will move to the next folder and download everything inside.   So SmartFtp may not really know how many objects are left to download except for what it can see in the Transfer Queue list...
