there is a tiny ribbon cable about 3" long that is permantlt fixed to 15, and has to be plugged into 14. I could not see this cable, I could only feel it and after a wiggle or two it came unplugged. Now I have to reverse this, that is my biggest worry. I think the rest will go ok as long as I don't drop anything or have an accident. Its like surgery, very delicate work.

I am still waiting for the part. I did look at things and found I can plug in that ribbon cable later from the front so that is a relief.

I may be a little late, but here's where I've looked for a laptop and other parts for it and the PC too. Good luck at any rate as mine is managing a 11 yr old and a cat.

rb, I am getting 2 loud beeps, any ideas?

The mb was missing grease and syyinge to apply it and the cloths to clean old grease, but intrusctions in box says included; the seal was broken on wrapping, it wasn't packaged well, some parts look different on this board but it is the number on old md for replacement; and last it wasn't packaged well, was loose in box and could see dame to plastic anti static wraping.

Now there is a compaq on sale at staples for $450, 1 gig ram, 160 hd, dyd burner with lightscribe, .... I think I made a big costly mistake. I am getting good at taking this thing aprt and putting back togther, did it three times now. Now I will have to do it again to see if I can see anything wrong causing the beeps and no startup.

Dave, beeps can mean different thing on different PC. On mine 2 short beeps usually means memory problem but not always. The one time I got tow beeps it was a problem with the graphic card.

Here is a place to start but the best thing to do would be to find the home page of the company that makes your mobo and look for a Support tab or button. They usually give they type info. They may even maintain a forum where you can ask questions and get help.

Dave it sounds like shoddy packaging to me and most likely a return that they didn't even bother to check out and repackage. I would call them and complain about it, you paid a big price for a NEW mobo. Tell them you want to return it and get a NEW one back. The grease or pad between the CPU chip and heatsink is CRUCIAL! If not applied properly the CPU will burn up.

I don't think you should accept what they sent you.
