Go to Roxio site and get the update for  VISTA

I have the wire ready but I haven't plugged it in yet to have internet. I am checking things out first.

I have all those huge updates for roxio on main pc and I see no difference whatever. They both have this same problem with menus. Sometimes I can get it to work, like one out of ten tries.

I wonder about those updates these companies are installing on PCs. This roxio 8 works great except for that problem with menus. Maybe the updates are not helpfull to client, maybe they are to add some kind of tracking to help themselves... Now that I mention it, I tried using adobe without the problematic menu and it does work fine. There is something about those menus in newer software. I had adobe crash already trying to load the menu screens. Anyway, problem solved, I am using adobe instead to burn the original DVD.

how to burn to HD first?

Rb, if you only have one drive, it automatically records to HD then opens the tray when you need to remove the disc and add the blank.

This is different but in adobe "send to DVD", it asks if you want to burn the movie (not copy) to HD or to the DVD. I don't know what thats for. Maybe it has to do with ram, I sure had trouble with that on old pc. There is something about burning to HD Vs dvd, the HD is a lot faster. Like, I can add a video folder to external HD in a few minutes where DVD takes much much longer.

Heres a note - copying discs with new pc using roxio is very fast. I can copy movies in a few minutes. I am making copies like crazy now. Much faster than old pc. Its not as fast as moving the movie to HD but its fast.

Another note - To burn a 70 minute movie from scratch takes about 20-30 minutes with roxio 8. It takes 90 minutes using adobe premiere. It also takes about 90 minutes using roxio 6.

I think, not sure, but I think the adobe has a better picture quality. I do control it somewhat before hand, but its auto controlled to "fit to disc' while burning.

OK, I used DVDFab Decrypter to put the movie on my HDD, it's the first program I came to.  I really don't know how long the movie is but after storing it on the HDD it says it's 955 MB and it took 3 minutes to copy it to the HDD.

Thats not real big, most of my movies are over 4 gigs. I just emptied my external hD, it was about full at 150 gigs. I burned all my videos to dvd, most as dublicates but to be sure. Then I freed up a whole lot of room on both PCs. I had the new one almost topped out already and the old one too. Now my old works much faster. I had about 280 gigs on each.

When you make a movie, it has to be rendered and compiled, its not the same as copying a movie. It can take hours depending on the size and quality. I make 10-15 minute segments as mpegs, then when finished I combine them to a movie, maybe 6 segments in all. Thats what takes time, like I said above, it is taking 90 minutes with adobe. Then after the movie is complete I can make copies in about 10 minutes or so, and they are over 4 gig.

I keep the quality maximum, then when I burn it I set to auto adjust quality to fit the disc which has a 4.7 gig max.
