I don't remember the name of it Bobby.  You said Decrypter and Shrink wasn't working for what you wanted to do but found another one that was promising.  I no longer remember what it was you were trying to do but apparently it was something entirly different since now you used Windows Media Player to do the job.

That was DVDFAB Decrypter v2.9.6.6.  Neither DVd Shrink or DVD Decrypter would get around the write protection on the movie that I wanted to make a backup of but DVDFAB Decrypter did.  It would have been better if DVDShrink would have because it would have brought the 6.33 GB movie down to a size that would fit on a 4.7GB DVD.

DVDFAB Decrypter can be found at www.dvdidle.com but these people want to sell it to you.  If you do a Google search of DVDFAB Decrypter it will take you to a site that offers a FREE D/L.

I don't understand why you would the contents of a DVD to your HDD. When you wanted to use the DVD contents why would you not just pop it in your drive and play it?  I also don't understand why it would take 5 hours.  What program are you using to copy it to your HDD with?

OK.  I just went back and read your post again.  That task time will come down drastically after you start copying the DVD.  Let me know how long it took.

OK, not sure how long but it wasn't 5 hours!! LOL  maybe half hour. I left it running while I did other things.

Got a question.  When I put the DVD in the tray why doesn't the movie play?   Not this DVD that I copied or any other.  Not the DVD I made the other day with the DVD recorder in  my living room.  I transferred a VCR tape to a DVD and it shows on the TV but not my PC.

Real Player launches but there is no movie on the screen.

BTW, the movie I copied to the HDD doesn't play either.

Two things come to mind immediately.  First, do you have Auto-Play turned on for the drive that you are trying to play it in?  Second, if it was burned with a DVD-R program and disk it may not play in a + player.  I have never run into this problem but I remember reading that _ or + disks were not compatible with all players (Or drives).  What I mean is that a - DVD may not play in a + player etc.

The movie is a commerical one, Holiday Inn, and the disk I used to copy the VCR tape is a DVD+R.  My burner is a Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2.  Here are the specs:

DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2 detail information

I think I was able to play a movie in that DVD Player one time after I got it and never again.

Your burner supports both types of media so that's not the problem.  Is your AutoPlay turned on on your PC drive?  I sure don't understand the DVD playing once but not since.

Your burner supports these media.

Supported media types
CD-ROM
DVD-ROM
CD-R/RW
DVD±R/RW
DVD±R DL

How and where do you turn Auto Play on?  Besides shouldn't you be able to click on the drive letter and make the movie play?

Anyway ... I think it does "Auto Play", it's just that no movie shows up.  This is what launches:  It does say DVD and it IS playing.....

If I go to Play and choose N ...  ( N is the DVD drive)

I get a screen but no movie, just a visualization like for music
