My next question will be, how does the forum part work?

That's not exactly an easy question to answer.  The phpBB forum is database driven meaning your data is stored separate from your board files.  So even if your board files are deleted, the data is still secure in the database.  You could restore the code and connect back to the database and all the data would be exactly as you left it...

All language related files are stored in your language folder and most of the functions are stored in your includes directory.  Admin related code is stored in your admin folder and you can store multiple templates (styles/skins) in your templates folder.  Any utility that you can call from your browser is stored in the root of the board...

Each page is broken into a header, footer, and body section.  So for any header or footer modifications, you would look for header or footer files to make the changes...

I could go on and on, but I think this is enough to get you started for now...

Maybe I could start a page on lunar, called "testing", and get a free pbb forum to test out how things work? I say that because I think Hoggie wants to have the catchnkids section as a seperate forum, and one that I can access, need to learn more about this forum part.

All for now, except I have been doing some major re-arranging on hoggies forum.

You really should do all testing and rearranging on a Test board.  If you screw up, no one would ever know.  Once you are ready to add the changes to your Live board, you should have already worked out all the bugs that might bring down the whole board, which would be bad...

NR, I tried to find the logo img in the templates area, and I don't see it, heres what I do see-

<<<<<

Styles Administration
The following list contains all the themes that are available for the templates you currently have. The items on this list have not yet been installed into the phpBB database. To install a theme, simply click the install link beside an entry.

Styles Administration
Using this facility you can add, remove and manage styles (templates and themes) available to your users

There is nothing there but color choices and a background image option.

Edit Theme
In the form below you can edit the settings for the selected theme >>>

Same thing.

Oh, if you just want to change the basic logo, you would change that in your Configuration option in General Admin of your ACP...

What is acp? Is that the forum or lunar? I don't see a page like that anywhere, but then the template says it isn't activated.

It gets complicated, I talked to hoggie today, and he said something about lunar told him it wasn't a pbbp forum anymore, that they made it something else. I am thinking its their backup they are refferring to, but this is enough to stop me dead in my tracks from doing anything else.

This might be best anyway, if I stop now, all is fine, but if I continue, and something went wrong, this could be bad.

The ACP is the Admin Control Panel in phpBB.  Just about anyone you talk to who's worked with phpBB for any length of time will refer to it this way...

No matter how much a phpBB forum is modified, it will always be a phpBB forum.  Hoggie's host is silly if they say otherwise...

It sounds like Hoggie has loaded additional templates in the templates/ folder that haven't been installed yet.  If you plan to offer more than one template to the members, like I do here, those additional templates will need to be installed as well.  We have 12 templates available to our members here.  Installing a template is easy.  Chances are, if you decide to install them, you will have to update them to get them to the same level as the currently installed templates...

I think the templates are installed ok, but I can't find anywhere where the logo image is. I right clicked on it to see and -http://catch-n.com/forums/templates/subSilver/images/catchnlogo

that is what it says, but no where to be found, I've tried a hundred times, it is not in there. The only thing even close is a background image.

I can't start a new template, the colors are blank and don't have time to copy each one and paste individually, forget it.

Thats pretty wierd that someone put his logo on and now it isn't an option on the template admin sections or anywhere else. How can that be?

Here is the path to the current Logo:

http://catch-n.com/forums/templates/subSilver/images/catchnlogo.gif

It is possible that the Logo path is hardcoded in the subSilver overall_header.tpl file.  You would find that at the following location:

http://catch-n.com/forums/templates/subSilver/overall_header.tpl

You shouldn't have to start a new template from scratch.  There are many very good templates already created out there that you can modify to fit your needs.  I would be surprised if Hoggie has blank templates stored in his templates folder...

NR, I don't have any of those options, there is nothing else. All I see is color and text choices. Otherwise, there is a background image option, a fax number option, avatars and thats about it. There is no links to click on, nothing, no more pages.

Like I said previously, I am signing into admin in my name with ful mod powers, so maybe I don't see everything that hoggie sees. Otherwise, it must be embbedded into lunar somehow. It isn't there, nothing, no logo or image options, no banner options, no catch-n logo address.

Now that I finished re-arranging, I will cut back and see whats up, they may not want me to do more. It takes people a few days to get over being mad about changes, ...usually I don't hear back from vistors and don't check stats for a few weeks after major altering. But the thing is, better is better and in the long run traffic improves if I got it right.

this is so frustrating.

OK, I dial up to the internet-
OK, Now I open FTP-
OK, Now I type in what address?

Lunar pages, www.lunar.com, catch-n.com? ftp.lunar.com? The moon.com?

I tried several and nothing works, all I get is errors. The instructions says a window should open and ignore errors, but no window opens and I don't even know where I'm going anyway.

I want to go to lunar pages, but ran out of guesses as to what their url is, the exact url from beginning to end. And also, I don't know if I should already be in lunar pages when I open ftp. The instructions I found on web aren't clear, everyone gets to this point and walks away, I need to know what to type in and when to open ftp but I have no idea. Hoggies goes too fast on this critical data and I don't have the address, i am unclear on this. He said www.catch-n.com but doesn't work, says I don't have access. I can get in lunar just fine by not using ftp.

Fishead, I can only show you what we have and do.  Hoggie's host may have a different type address to use.  We only type in our domain name with a / on the end.  For some reason the SS shows a | on the end too and I don't know why, it shouldn't be there, only a /

Your problem may be with the user name and password.  You will have to use the same user name and password that Hoggie uses to access his Web Site Control Panel.

Once you get access to the files everything for the forum will be in the phpBB2 folder
