Fishead, I'm downloading it now. I had to get this one:
HERE
The only way to get a single use download was to use Windows Update and since I don't have XP that was not an option for me. Any way this one is just fine except it makes for a huge download, about 270MB I think
I can mail the CD to you tomorrow. Mail me your address, I'm not sure I have it.

I did get the directx 9 OK, it wouldn;t reboot for a couple times but its ok now. There is still many problems with win xp, and new updates all the time, I just got yet another in auto update, never ending.
I saw the other post about nero, and I have my douts about if its for me. I alread have sonic on here for one thing, and sonic is now roxio, and I already have the last version, 7.5V so I want to be familiar with it. Also, the neuro is cheap on ebay, but the others are much higher, its like they can't give nero away, so I am still going with sonic roxio. I could try adobi's video, but I read some bad reports on it in pc mag, for whatever thats worth, they lie for money. But anyway, the roxio/sonic is already on this pc, so might as well just upgrade that. I did have great luck with roxio video software, it worked when all others wouldn't, its all in the burning, but maybe that conflicts between them is fixed, don't know, but won't waste any more time on sub quality programs like windows movie maker etc. |

I can't access my website, it freezes up. I'm off to defragment etc., check a few things, then if it won't load all the way I will uninstall and try again, but this time without the firewall and norton. I am letting my website throughg my windows firewall, so its still on.
I don't understand it, but this doesn't look good. |

Sounds like you have your hands full, fishead. Wishing you success.
I don't know much about XP but have seen mention of System Restore a lot. Would it be a good idea to disable System Restore while you do scans for viruses and adware? Here is something I found. You may already know all this just trying to help:
One of the best features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus infects a computer with this operating system the virus may be accidentally backed up because of this feature. In order to completely remove a virus on these operating systems, you should disable System Restore before cleaning the system, then reenable it after the system is clean.

I did a complete reformat, so the restore was erased.
I checked it out in homestead forum, and I am defragmenting, took an hour. I read in HP that could be anti virous, and so I shut it down and website builder open and work right until I tried to publish a page, then it froze up again, and no other running processes going.
I tried to open without being on line and wouldn't open at all, said my name was wrong, I opened up a small site to see if that helped, so then I deleted temp files and cookies etc. and drfragmenting now.
Sure seems like there is something in there, I have a great spy boot but lost it and I will get the CD again to try that. I haven't been to very many websites, just windows updates, hp, norton and a couple boards. I have a conflict somewhere.
Starting to think it could be hardware. |

It could be hardware. Hardware can give all sorts of weird error messages, and make different things not work. We had a heck of a time trying to fix our daughter's computer, all sorts of memory and hard drive errors, and it turned out that the motherboard was bad.
But please don't let your computer go online at all without a firewall. Those viruses look for open ports, and without a firewall, you can get a virus within 2 minutes of logging on. I'd leave the modem and ethernet cards disconnected from cables until I'd reformatted and installed Windows and a firewall. Only then would I go online to get the security updates. And leave the firewall enabled while downloading and installing them, or download them and disconnect cables before disabling your firewall to install the updates. |

well I definatly have problems, I just reinstalled my website and can't access it, it just freezes up. I configured the firewall to let homestead in, and only turned norton off.
The pc works fine except my website right now. I may lose it. Now i am depressed again. I turned on the laptop and somehow I was denied access to my profile. I had to create a new account to get in and then lost everything, but found in my profile and managed to retrieve everything. The cat might have walked on the keyboard, i don't know,I turned it off and left it open.
That was the wierdest thing. Couldn't even use my recovery, it said pc was new. I did a lot of checking my cookies, and as I came in here around 6 there was a DAT file just below, maybe someone hacked in, I don't know whats going on but lost two pc s at the same time, and while this was going on they were saying on the news that windows was having problems with yet another open door, and was making a fix. maybe this has something to do with it.
What it is it changed my mind on running my website through there. I am broke down indefinatly if not permantly, can't afford this $2000 loss. Maybe I'll give up and just play video games for a few months. I do still have my old pc, old reliable but broken cd burner and too small. It could be my harddrive, or mother board, or processor, or a virous, or hell i don't know. I may be back, may not. Who knows whats next. |

The web site is fine, all there. I just visited it. What you mean is that you have lost the ability to connect to your web site server? That can be fixed once you get your OS stable.
Is Homestead your host? They can help you with whatever you need to do to access your files. Your web site is on their server not on your PC. At least that's the way mine works.

I think its the harddrive rb, or the mother board, and can't afford.
I did get my website builder loaded on laptop, so I can access it, but I will have to delete most of my website, its too big for laptop, and takes 6 hours to load all my files, so I want it cut way down to speed things up when I try again.
I am thinking harddrive, and for a 160 gig it will coct me. Then if that isn't it, I will have to replace the motherboard, and so I am pretty much out of the website for a long time, maybe permanently. I can't work on art and toons on laptop, can't afford a new pc, and so fisheadtackle is oput opf business. Thats why I loaded it on the laptop, I have to start removing things, like my DVDs, I am finished in the DVD business, can't copy so I have to get those ads down right away, and everything else I offer to see; I am broke indefinatly. |
