Hi Chris!  Welcome to RCF.

Nightrider had been off line most of the day, as have I matter of fact, but when he logs in I'm sure he will help you.  In the meantime please feel free look around and see what all we have.

Welcome to RCF, Chris!!!   Applause

I'm sorry that my response has come so late.  I haven't been feeling well today...

Your board is currently off-line, so I don't see the error that you want me to see.  But if I remember correctly, you have a problem with the functions.php file.  So if you could provide a text link to the functions.php file, I should be able to pinpoint the source of the error for you...

Creating text Links for phpBB files

First create a duplicate of the phpBB file on your PC, then rename the file by adding .txt to the end of the file name.  Next upload the file to a location on your FTP Server accessible to the public and provide a link back here for us to analyze it...

The path to your file could look something like this now:

Code:
http://yourdomain.com/downloads_folder/functions.txt

No probs mate.

As to the problem that I had with the control panel mod and after a day of just getting one error after another i ended up just restoring all the phpBB files and database. i'll just leave the mod off completly. The only way I'd get that mod on is if someone installed it for me. I can only do the simple mods what take about 3 - 5 minutes, if not do them i get a hell of a lot further than i do with the bigger mods haha.

i will use "Creating text Links for phpBB files" on here in the future though Nightrider yeah.

btw thanks for the invite rb2d2  headbang

Cheers
Chris

You might consider creating a Test board so that you can work out any kinks from the MOD installs before installing them into your Live community.  That way, your Live board should never be disrupted...

Creating Test phpBB Board

I can give you enough to get started.

  1. The first thing you want to do is download all of your board files and folders to your PC.
  2. Next, create a folder on your server called Test...
  3. Upload all of the board files and folders that you just downloaded to your PC back to your new Test folder...
  4. Create a new Test database
  5. Open the Test config.php file in your favorite editor and modify the dbname, dbuser, and dbpasswd settings to match your new Test Database
  6. Create a database backup of your Live board database from your ACP...
  7. Restore your new database backup back to your new Test database.  This will probably take a long time.  You will probably need some help with this step unless you are very familiar with phpMyAdmin...
  8. Modify phpbb_config table settings in your Test database that contain a full or partial board path to match the URL path on your new board

Your new Test board should be good to go at this point.  My instructions above may take some time to accomplish, but it is worth it to have a Test board available to test install new MODs that you want to install on your Live board.

Once you get your Test board operational, I can help you through even the most difficult MODs using EM.  Once you understand a few of the basic tricks to installing these MODs, you will be able to install almost any MOD in a relatively short amount of time...

Yeah I was just reading the other thread about you recommending SteveU to do this... I'm going to set one up now. It's really easy to set up extra databases, etc with the host I’m using "Bluehosts". Dam they're good.

As to phpMyAdmin - I know how to import and export files. Not familiar with the rest but I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it soon.

Will have a go now  headbang

There is an fast and easy way to clone the Live database in phpMyAdmin...

phpMyAdmin - Cloning the Database

PhpMyAdmin has a handy tool that can be used to clone your database in a very short amount of time....

To easily clone your database, first create a new database in MySql.  Make sure you assign a username that can access it with FULL privileges...

Then do this in phpMyAdmin.  Select your current Live database in the left panel:

Click on the Operations tab in the right panel:

Enter the name of the new Test database that you created, select structure and data.  Then press the Go button:

Your new Test database should be popuplated now.  Then you would need to make sure that the config.php file settings for the Test board point to the new database...

Right then, how did this was I just imported the old phpBB sql file into the "test" database and uploaded the old php root folder and all of its files to the test folder. I also edited the config.php for the test folder with the new mysql details.

I have two problems though when logging into the test board though

When I log in

http://www.djpassions.com/test/login.php?sid=a5a1d1fe9be9d3474fb3d6b38 6c0abdb

I get redirected back to my old board

http://djpassions.com/portal.php?sid=f074bd1860bb4112570d1b95f9f07cb0

Also the Watched Topics picture from the menu at the top is missing (test board)

Now go into your phpbb_config table in phpMyAdmin and change any paths pointing to your Live board to the Test board path.  There may be 3-5 settings that need to be adjusted.  Make sure you are looking at all the phpbb_config table records.  By default, it only shows the first 30 records.  So you can change it to show the first 500 records.  That will show the entire contents of your table...
