FTP ERROR: connection to mysql1023.servage.net:21 failed.
This error occurs frequently when the port number is incorrect. Back on step 1 you should try changing the FTP Port from 21 to whatever port you typically use when you FTP. |

Welcome to RCF nephronim!!!
I'm sorry that I'm getting such a late start today. I've felt lousy all day, so I'm moving a bit slow...
Rescan Option
Ok, do you see a rescan option at the bottom of this page? If so, click on it. Hopefully on the next page, you will be given the Automcatic Detection option. If so, go with it...

hey that artist is me from nephronim.com by the way.
and after i looked for that diagnosis option i got this responce
Problem. EasyMOD has permission to create new files, but does not have permission to replace the old files with the new ones. There are several things you can do:
If you have FTP access, then use the FTP option.
Your server has "safe mode" enabled which means EasyMOD cannot automaticly replace your phpBB files. You might consider using chmod or chown to allow access.
You might consider using chmod to allow access. However, this is not advised in a shared server environment.
Otherwise you have to use the post process script or manually move files into place.
I'll try using the FTP option. (requires FTP access)
I have now modified my file permissions, try rescanning to see if EasyMOD has access.
I will use the post_process script to automatically move files into place. (requires knowledge of how to execute a script)
I will have to download the files and manually move them into place
I'd like to select something else. (Advanced Mode) |

File Access Info
Let's see what you have for file access. You do not need everything to read 'ok'.
read access :: OK
write access :: OK
root path write :: No
chmod access :: OK
unlink access :: OK
mkdir access :: OK
tmp path write :: OK
FTP extension :: OK
Safe Mode :: OFF
copy access :: No
so i need to change some permissions and how do i do this? |

That's very good, Paul, I really like it. Is it a self portrait?

You have some very dangerous permissions settings on your server right now. The 777 permission opens your board up to hacking attempts since it gives full read/write/execute access to everyone. The only folders that should be set to 777 are your cache and images/avatars folders as well as any folder where you allow members to upload files to your server. For the vast majority, the folder permissions should be set to 755...
CHMOD Permissions
Do you have the permissions of the folders set to 755 and the files set to 644? On most boards, the folder permissions must be set to 755 and the file permissions to 644. However on some, such as Awardspace and Lycos, the folder and file permissions MUST BE set to 755. Check some of your other non-EM file and folder permissions to determine what works on your site...
You can probably find instructions on how to do that at the site that provides your FTP application. I'm sure it varies from application to application...
I use SmartFTP. All you need to do is click on a folder or file in the right hand viewer and choose Properties/CHMOD or Alt+Enter
Then you can either enter the value, like 755 or 644, or you can click on the read, write, execute options, which do the same thing...

These settings don't all have to be Ok for EM to be able to install itself. What's really important are the file and folder permissions be exactly what your host server software expects if it is especially picky. Some are, some aren't that picky...
So does your host software allow the 644 file permissions or does it require a different permission? If you have changed everything and aren't sure what your host server software allows/requires, you can simply upload a file and check it's permissions. That will be the permission that you want to set all your other files to. If the file permissions must be something other than 644, then you will have to install a modified version of EM to work on your site. So it is important to know what your host server software allows/requires for the file permissions...
Would you post another copy of your EM Debug Info now that you have adjusted some of the settings/permissions???
