| I inserted a floppy disc into my floppy drive ("A") and when I removed it the metal part of the floppy disc came off and remains in my floppy drive. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I can get it out? |

| OK I removed the metal clip with a non-metalic tweezer. All's right with the world once again. |

That's strange that the floppy fell apart like that...

Doesn't surprise me sometimes I think this stuff is put together with cheap disappearing glue. I had a HDD connector come right off the ribbon when I attempted to pull it off the HDD. The connector stayed on the HDD and I just had the ribbon in my hand with the back of the connector attached. It came off very easy, like it was rotten. Once I removed the back of the connector off the ribbon you couldn't even tell where it had been.
Go figure.
Bobby, I probably would have tilted the tower and shook it , expecting the medal part to fall out! Failing there I probably would have taken the floppy drive apart.

This is exactly the same suggestion that Mrs. Bobby made! She was able to move the lost metal part around enough to grasp it with the tweezers. I can see my domonation of the PC Knowledge base eroding more all the time. Every since Mrs. Bobby came up with the solution as to what was taking up so much of the space on my HDD I have seen my throne slipping more every day. |

If you had looked closely at the ribbon, you would have seen tiny little holes where the connector had been attached. That's where the tiny connector pins pierced the plastic to make connection with the wires inside...

I know but you couldn't even see those holes. Those connector pins are extremely fine. However way they are held in the bar on the back must have been defective, it came apart far too easily.

I had the same thing happen to a PC that I was working on. I was lucky enough to have a spare cable laying around that I could use to replace it...

Did you check the CD drive? It might have had a jelly sandwich inside.
