Newsweek: Obama, McCain campaigns hacked by ‘foreign entity’
Newsweek is reporting that the computer systems of the campaigns of both Barack Obama and John McCain were compromised in a “sophisticated cyberattack” by an unknown “foreign entity.”
At Obama headquarters, what was originally believed to be a virus planted in a phishing attack turned out to something more ominous. After an investigation, the FBI and Secret Service issued a dire warning:
* You have a problem way bigger than what you understand,” an agent told Obama’s team. “You have been compromised, and a serious amount of files have been loaded off your system.”

I got 2 adobe flash updates lately, I hope I wasn't attacked. This is bigger than people think, its like they're at cyber war with us. Here's more:
ChannelWeb - Obama, McCain Web Sites Hit By Foreign Hackers - link contained in the body of the e-mail
The report comes just two days after hackers launched a global organized spam campaign exploiting Obama's Presidential victory Tuesday. Throughout the malicious spam campaign, first detected Nov. 5, attackers sent copious amounts of spam to millions of computers around the world that purported to be videos featuring Obama's acceptance speech. However, when users clicked on the link contained in the body of the e-mail message, they were prompted to download what they thought was the latest version of Adobe (NSDQ:ADBE) Flash Player. As they clicked on the link, their computer systems became infected with a Trojan that silently recorded valuable information from their systems and subsequently sent it to foreign servers.

Report: White House e-mail system attacked - CNET News
According to a story by the Financial Times on Friday, U.S. officials have confirmed that the White House e-mail archives were attacked several times in recent months. The report says the National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force, a new unit established in 2007 to tackle cybersecurity, detected the attacks on the White House, and also traced the attacks back to servers based in China.

Chinese hackers, washingtonpost
Sources told the paper that the hackers were likely working for the Chinese government because of "their targeted nature." American officials declined to comment for the record on the reports, as did Chinese officials who in the past have called such accusations reminiscent of "Cold War-era thinking."

The Unreported War
China, unlike other nations hostile to America (North Korea, Cuba, Iran), has a large and growing Internet presence. China has thousands of skilled Internet programmers, and has admitted it is putting together military units for developing and using cyberweapons. So the next time there are tensions between the United States and China, there will be an outbreak of nasty, and hard to trace, Cyber War attacks on the United States......
.......
What's behind this are several dozen gangs that undertake large scale criminal operations on the Internet. Most people see the results in the form of spam email (over 70 percent of all email is spam) and operations that secretly take over personal and business PCs, so these computers can secretly transmit spam, or huge quantities of bogus messages that shut down targeted web sites (DDOS, or distributed denial or service attacks). The gangs also specialize on finding all manner of secret, or sensitive, information, and selling it. Intelligence agencies are often eager buyers.
It appears that China and Russia, or at least their security services, have made deals with some of the gangs. It works like this. If the secret police want some Internet based spying done, or a DDOS attack unleashed on someone, the gangs will do it, or help government Cyber War organizations do so. In return, the gangs have a safe haven........
