This is old but interesting:

SecureWorks reports a Chinese hacker is behind executive 'whaling phishing scams' involving the US Federal Courts and the IRS

JUNE 3, 2008 | ATLANTA -- SecureWorks, a leading security services provider, reported today that a Chinese hacker is behind the current and former executive “whaling phishing scams” involving the US Federal Courts and the IRS. The new US Tax Court scam, targeting financial executives, which started two weeks ago is the latest in a wave of whaling attacks involving the IRS and the Federal Courts beginning in June 2007. Jackson also just discovered that the same hacker launched an IRS whaling scam this past weekend and the SecureWorks Counter Threat Unit is investigating it currently.

The scammers are out big time right now!  My son got an email, from QuikCat (???) telling him his Credit Card had been compromised and to open an attached zip file to fill out a form.  He didn't of course but I wonder how many did?

I got a phone call, a recording, saying my Chase card has been suspended because of misuse and to press 1 to yada, yada, yada ...  I hung up. But I wonder how many didn't?  As if people didn't have enough problems already these people are creating more hell for them.  HANG 'UM!  HANG 'UM HIGH!

That hacker a few months ago really hurt my site. I see bad things looking around in my name because of it and I think thats why google had given me so much trouble, like when they just dropped me from adsense and kept my money. I don't know if I will ever recover. may have to get a new domain name, I don't know.

Identity Theft

Identity theft can be committed through e-mail (phishing) or other means, such as regular mail, fax or telephone, or even by going through someone's trash.

Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personal information such as your name, Social Security number or other identifying information without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes. Typically, identity thieves use someone’s personal data to empty the victim’s financial accounts, run up charges on the victim’s existing credit cards, apply for new loans, credit cards, services or benefits in the victim’s name, file fraudulent tax returns or even commit crimes. People whose identities have been stolen can spend months or years — and their hard-earned money — cleaning up the mess thieves have made of their good name and credit record. In the meantime, victims may lose job opportunities, be refused loans, education, housing or cars, or even get arrested for crimes they didn't commit.
