I am seeing this at every turn, I am using a 13 day trial now but looks like its no longer free. I see there is other free FTP programs in open source programs, has anyone tried any of these and if so is there any you would recommend?

BTW, wonder why they don't just charge 10 bucks instead of $40 or some high amount? They could have made tens of millions of dollars had they ask for ten last year instead of asking $40. that no one wanted to pay.

Yep, I have to agree with you, Dave. I finally shelled out the money after updating several times. Looked like just before the program was to expire he came up an update and then you got 14 to 28 days more but I got tired of that and figured sooner or later that was going to come to a stop.
There is another FTP program that's pretty good, free and people like a lot called FileZilla. It works pretty much like SmartFTP except for me the remote side kept closing down when unused. I have it installed and like it ok except for the closing down and you have to re activate the remote side.
There are others out there but I haven't tried more than two or three for a short while before uninstalling. I have not been able to find anything better, or as good as SmartFTP.
Try FiliZilla and see what you think, you might like it as well as SmartFTP

Download: You would want the first one: FileZilla_3.1.1.1_win32-setup.exe (recommended)

Look! There is even a portable Filezilla .......
FileZilla Portable (exe)
FileZilla Portable (formerly Portable FileZilla) is the popular FileZilla FTP client packaged as a portable app, so you can take your server list and settings with you. You can place it on your USB flash drive, iPod, portable hard drive or on a CD and use it on any computer, without leaving any personal information behind.

I installed it but never could connect so I uninstalled it. I'm sure I had everything right as far as name password but the port I'm not sure of. My port number was rejected so I used the one they had listed but after that it just kept trying and failing to connect. Looks like I will have to fork over the money.

The Preview pane is kind of neat but there is a limit on size, don't really understand that but it tells you the size limit has been reached if you click a very large image. That could limit it's usefulness.

There doesn't seem to be a limit on the Local Browser but I haven't figured out how to see more than one picture at a time. I think that Demo showed a folder full of pictures

You can always change your system date, launch SmartFtp, then change the system date back. I change the month to January, launch SmartFtp, then set the system date back to August once SmartFtp is up and running...
