| I almost got in trouble again in myspace, I had a friend invite and when I clicked on it I got a window wanted me to download some spyware remover, so I clicked on x to close and it said thanks for choosing to download this program so I quick closed myspace from bar at bottom. That was close, I have been there before, and had to reformat to get rid of the mess. |

Awww geez! They are taking all the fun out of surfing the net or even visited formally trusted sites. This stuff really makes me mad, it wasn't all that long ago you could trust almost any site just by looking at it and ads were off to the side are grouped at the top away from the main part of the page. Now when you go to download a program you better make sure of what you're downloading because it may be sandwiched in between two different downloads that you don't want and on top of that the "Download" button will probably be twice the size of the download button you really want.
It's getting to be like TV, 90 percent of the page is advertising and you need a magnifying glass to find the "real" stuff. The other day I downloaded updated drivers for my video card and the zipped drivers came with an AD for crying in the milk! It placed a link on my desktop to a site where I could get four "FREE" games that really weren't free of course. It occurred to me to complain about this but then I figured they would tell me if I don't want updated drivers just don't get them. Even if they didn't say it I'm sure that's what they would be thinking.
After years on the internet and a lot of experience we've gotten pretty good at spotting all this stuff but for a fairly new person to the Web it's like walking through a minefield these days.

rb, I feel the same way, the crap on the tv screen has bothered me from day one, think that was around 911 when they started doing it.
And the download ads surrounding the real downloads are a pain too. It is a tactic gone way too far. I do a little of that myself by placing google ads in key areas but they go too far with this.
On my space it was NOT an ad, it was a trojan, the same as I had once before where they have you buying all kinds of stuff to fix the trojan only to fall in deeper and deeper. It installs warnings in quick launch and it constantly gives you warning pop ups, it is maddening so people have to pay to get removed buts its permanent. I had to reformat to get rid of it. Thats why I was so upset when I bought vista and found they use those same tactics with warning popups, I about lost my mind with anger. What trash they will do, they are scum like the trojan people, no better. |

Thanks for this post fishead as I went there 2 different times now and had a spyware/malware catch me off guard as well. I am not sure what's triggering it but I am pissed you can believe that. All I did was close it with the X at the top and then moved off MySpace all together or I moved into something else... fast. I'm going to screen cap it next time and send it to TOOOOOOOOOM. Arrrgghhhhhhhhhhhhh.....
I'm so glad my page here is private. I'm sure if that helps or not but I have been on it and left before. I'm still considering it again especially after this recent crap. |

| I clicked on the x and it said thankyou for agreeing to install and I quick closed on the bottom bar. I did get that trojan once before so i knew what it was. Both times were to check out a friend request. You can't get rid of that crap they install, it only gets worse and I had to reformat, or thats what I did anyway. I got lucky this time. Its obvious whos doing it, its the same companies that try to help you fix it. Its right in your face screw you what you gonna do about it type thing. made me so mad. |
