Windows XP outshines Vista in benchmarking test

New tests have revealed that Windows XP with the beta Service Pack 3 has twice the performance of Vista, even with its long-awaited Service Pack 1.

I'm sure there are a growing number of people who will never upgrade from XP just like there are with W2K.  It may get to the point where there will be no one left who is willing to buy the next OS upgrade that follows Vista at this rate.  M$ may be coding itself out of business...

So have you decided to stick with XP from now on, no matter what M$ releases in the future?  I know I have no plan to upgrade from W2K to any future M$ OS.  I imagine the next OS "upgrade" I make will be to Linux.  M$ has lost my business forever AFAIC...

I'm waiting until Windows 7 to decide.  I'm still trying to decide if I should buy a copy of XP while I still can, who knows what Windows 7 will be like.  W2K is going to start dropping off the radar screen eventually no matter how much we love it.   I can do withot the M$ support but developers will stop upgrading their products to include W2K one by one as time goes on.

Since W2K is based on NT and so are XP and Vista, then almost anything that works in Vista or XP will continue to work in W2K even if the developers don't say that they support W2K.  Look at all the applications that still work with W98.  It's going to be a very long time before developers stop supporting W2K, espcecially since so many businesses are still using it...

Even if you buy XP, good luck activating it once M$ stops supporting it.  The CD will become worthless at that point...

I guess I need to build a new PC and create a dual boot, W2K and XP.  And SOON!

You can buy it on ebay for 85 bucks and supposedly in any store for $200. I don't know what the difference is, ebayers claim its a legal copy.

Well it gets complicated with all the different versions, Home, Pro, Scholistic and what have you.  Also there is what they call a Regular (?) version and an OEM version.  The OEM version is quite a bit cheaper.

If I understand correctly you can move the Regular version to a different PC and get a new Key from Microsoft but with the OEM you can use it only on the PC you install it on.

When installed the OEM version it is "attached" to the mobo of the PC and if you try to install it on another PC it tells you it's the wrong PC.  I don't know how they get that info onto the CD during install but they do.
