Those wonderful folks over at DAZ 3D are doing it again by making Bryce 5.5, a 3D landscape and animation tool, available as a free download.

The latest version of their software is at 6.1, but with version 5.5 you get a free, fully functional version of the software with no time-limit or disabled features to worry about. If you've been itching to play around in the 3D world you should check this out. The software is available for both Mac and PC platforms.

Not yet Katy. I think I had an older free copy a long time ago and did create something with it but you're right it was complicated. I think it was Bryce, not sure. I have not installed this copy yet. But bigR has and here are her observations about installing.

A new toy! Dunno if I'll play with it a lot right away, or make anything worth showing.

Their upgrade price of $20 to version 6.1 is extremely reasonable, so anybody who wants to play with 3D rendering should be able to afford it.

Bryce 5.5 is now installed on the iMac. During installation, it said that Daz Studio was also required, and upon permisison installed that free software. That is apparently 3D modeling software of sorts. I haven't played with it, but it makes human figures, animals, objects, and scenes for the figures and objects.

A requirement of the installation is to agree to tell at least 2 people about Daz Studio. So consider this post as my meeting that requirement. Daz makes money from people buying various models, figures, objects and add-ons to Bryce and Daz Studio. Those run from the occasional free one on up to $30-40 or so, regular price

Geez, had to jump through some hoops to get it installed! Right in the middle of it I had to go to the site and create an account so I could get a free registration number. But all that went well.....

Right! Very user friendly! NOT. LOL Katy, I think the best place to start would be with the Quick Start option. You get PDF manual that tells you how to use Bryce. Scroll down a bit and there is tutoral to get you started. Working on it now .....

If there is a People>Victoria anywhere it sure is well hidden! It certainly isn't in the Content or Studio folders!

K ... so .... two utilities, uh? Well I sure didn't get anywhere with DAZ Studio! Tried Bryce5.5 .... OK, I did come up with something but I don't think I'll be using this thing too often any time soon.
