Earlier today I attempted to read a User's Guide that was opened by OO2.org but was unable to because it was was numbers and letters. Later I attempted to open and read a sports story posted by a local TV station on their web site but again I was unable to. It also was opened by OO2.org. Why does it not open it as words?

First of all Bobby, neither Open Office nor M$ Word will read .pdf files, that's why you are getting numbers instead of text. Adobe Acrobat Reader reads .pdf files.
Either program will open and read .doc or .txt files.
If Open Office is opening automatically for .pdf files you can change that in File View under Folder Opions in Windows Explorer under Tools or in Control Panel in Folder Options. There you can also set M$ Word to read your .doc files if you prefer that program to read them.
I will show you screen shots however they are from W2K and if I remember correctly you don't have these same windows in XP. However, there should be something called Folder Options in your Control Panel and even though the windows may look different they still should have the same options to specify which program opens and reads your files.
Just a note here, if you ever need to create .pdf files Open Office can do that.

| I didn't have Adobe Acrobat Reader on my PC so I D/L and installed it. I guess that I lost it when my HDD crashed a while back. I then went to Cuntrol Panel > Files to set the file association but it was already set for Acrobat to open PDF files so I'm rady to go now. I went back and opened those two documenta that I had not been able to tread previously and it works great. Thanks a bunch for your help RB. |
