I went to the Gadwin web page and D/L Gadwin PrintScreen to my downlods folder. When I tried to install the setup file I got the following error messsage.
NSIS ERROR
Installer corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a failed download or corrupted from a virus. If desperate, try the /NCRC command line switch (NOT reccommended)
Any ideas whi I recieved this error message? |

Try downloading the file again. The copy you have may not have downloaded correctly and could be corrupt. If you get the same error on the new downloaded file, then I can make a copy that I know works in W2K available to you...

| NR: I tried several times to D/L this into my Downloads folder but I kept getting the same error message. So I tried running it and still got that error message. I have used it for a couple of years on my XP PC with no problems. Also..........do my posts appear very small on the forum? When I see them they are. |

Maybe Gadwin will have to be updated before it will work in Vista. That's a very real posibility. I will upload my copy of Gadwin to our server so that you can download and attempt to install it. If that doesn't work, you may not be able to install Gadwin on that PC...

No, that is only a problem on your PC and doesn't affect the display here in the forums that everyone else sees...

Googled and it seems to be a popular error for Vista. Found this:
NSIS Error- Installer damaged--------------> Solved !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NSIS Error
I have had this error, i could not download anything, drivers updates etc
and thought i would make a thread for those who might come up against it. i
have come to the conclusion that its down to a virus, even if your anti virus
doesn't find it, i used Panda virusscan FREE (google) and scanned the whole
system and it found and healed the little runt. I then used a "regfix"
software and removed unused files. ( i am not sure if this had anything to do
with it but my comp is now fine and working properly). Also use "Disk
Cleanup" on your comp too. Then reboot the computer and then try again.
Note. Make sure you turn off system restore (right click My Computer-
Properties) before u scan the pc, then scan the pc using a very gud anti
virus software and then when you reboot turn on the system restore.
Your NSIS error should be gone and you shud be able to download drivers etc
!!!
Hope this helps !

There is even a FAQ site for NSIS! Which by the way stands for "nullsoft scriptable install system"

| Thanks NR for the Gadwin link. It worked fine! I have itinstalled and working now. And thank you RB for all the information about the NSIS error message. All knowledge is valuable because "Knowledge is POWER". Little by little I'm beginning to learn how to use my new Vista OS. Personally I wouldn't go out an buy it yet but it is installed on all new PCs. I called around trying to find a PC tower alone without Vista but this is the nearest thing that I could find. I would have preferred to have shopped at Tiger Direct or NewEgg and hand picked each item that I wanted but I found this at Walmart and got it. My main criteria was to get something NOW to use. I had already started on my way to PC INSANITY because I didn't have one. This is for a backup to be used whenever my other PC is down. The only thing that I am leary of is the memory. It has 512 MB and I had read that Vista was a memory intensive OS that required a minimum of 1GB of RAM. I'll monitor it's performance and add more memory if necessary. I has a 160GB HDD and a Dual Layer DVD/CD Burner with the new Lightscribe technology. I have 15 days to try it and if I don't like it Walmart will take it back and give me a refund. I'll have it checked out long before the grace period is up. |

Neat-O. That sounds good. About memory ... don't even get me started!!! My pet peeve. The PC makers install the barest amount of memory, just enough to make the system run and if you add anything almost right off the bat you need more memory! I resent that!!
Have fun, Bobby. What do you mean it will be a backup? If it's brand new why not make it your main PC? You can give your other one to Mrs Bobby!!

Awesome. There must have been something wrong with the download file on the Gadwin server. They may not even know about it yet...

I agree RB. Another thing that PC manufacturers are bad about is not putting enough USB Ports on PCs. I was told that this one had four on the back and two on the front but it only has two on the back. I don't believe that adding two mor4e USB ports on to the machine would drive the costs up much. It does foece you to go out and buy a hub though. I think a lot of computer design has in mind creating more demand for generating extra purchases. For instance; I will probably need to purchase more memory for this PC if I use many periphals on it. Also it required that I have a USB Hub because of the shortage of outlets built into the machine.
This is kind of along the lines of thinking of military combatants. An Army had much rather wound the enemy soldiers than to kill them because of the added effort and expense of tending to a wounded soldier. That's kind of a far-fetched correlation isn't it? |
