NO, not the memory in your head, the one in the PC.
Here is a free utililty you can download to test the memory in your PC.
Windows Memory Diagnostic
The Windows Memory Diagnostic tests the Random Access Memory (RAM) on your computer for errors. The diagnostic includes a comprehensive set of memory tests. If you are experiencing problems while running Windows, you can use the diagnostic to determine whether the problems are caused by failing hardware, such as RAM or the memory system of your motherboard. Windows Memory Diagnostic is designed to be easy and fast. On most configurations, you can download the diagnostic, read the documentation, run the test and complete the first test pass in less than 30 minutes.

| I Downloaded Windows Memory Diagnostic to a CD. But the more I read the more confused I became. They talk about using my CD with Windows Memory Diagnostic to reboot my PC with and that's where I got lost. What am I supposed to do? Am I supposed to go to my start button and turn off my PC there using the "turn Off" button in the window that comes up? Then insert my CD in my drive? Is that when the Windows Memory Diagnostic page will come up? This is what I may need because I got a pop-up window saying that I may be short on RAM when i tried to open an e-mail last night and again this morning. This is the first time that I had ever seen this window. It's kind of ironic because I had just ordered a 512 memory stick from Crucial last night. I already have one 512 memory stick installed on my PC. The next upgrade that I get will be two I GB sticks which will bring me up to a total of 3 GB of memory. That is my maximum capacity for my Mobo. |

I think you can insert your CD in the tray, reboot your PC (not turn it off) and when it reboots it will boot up to the CD and your memory tester will show up. You may have to make changes in your BIOS so the boot order will be CD, HDD, Floppy.
It's odd that you got that popup just by opening an email. Was it an exceptonally large one?

Where will I need to go to make this change? How do I find my BIOS?
I got the pop-up window mwssage once last night and twice this morning on just a normal-sized e-mail. |

Usually when you boot up you will see something like Press DEL to enter Setup ... or words to that effect. That's the Delete key.
If you have your manual handy it might be a good time to look up BIOS. DON'T change anything except the bootup sequence. You want CD-ROM to be first. If you forget to change it later after you're through with the memory testing that's ok if the system doesn't find a CD it will go on to the HDD. But you do need to go back to Setup and change the bootup sequence back to HDD first in line.
You shouldn't be getting that popup window when you open an email. Or any thing else as a matter of fact. 512 may not be a huge amount of memory but it should be plenty for your system with out getting a warning about running out of memory. Unless you have a TON of stuff that starts up when you first turn the machine on.
Did you Google it?

OK. I checked the BIOS and it already had the CD drive listed first. Then I hit escape and went to the reboot box. When it rebooted I got the SS shown. I can find no instructions in the left-hand pane.

OK. I've completed my reading about VM usage and it's solutions. I still want to know why I am not getting the Windows Memory Diagnostic page as you say I am supposed to. I get a message saying "To start the search follow the instructions on the left. There are no instructions on the left.
