I have used this online check up/inspection. It is highly rated by respectable tech forums. Some of the things I didn't update because I really don't use them. Most I have updated but still have some to go. I recommand this scan, as far as I can see it's save. If it tells you don't have Java installed and do you want to run it anyway say yes.
Secunia Software Inspector
The Secunia Software Inspector will inspect your operating system and software for insecure versions and missing security updates. A default inspection normally lasts 5-40 seconds, while a thorough inspection may take several minutes. Note: If you have anti-virus software or similar enabled, an inspection may increase significantly in duration.
I left my anti-virus software enabled.

You did press Start, right? I also checked the square underneath the word Start. Look at the last line in my SS. Does yours say the Java Applet loaded successfully?

Yes I have Netscape installed but seldom use it. Where do I check to see if my java is updated? |

To update your Java: Go to Control Panel, scroll down to Java, open it and click on the Update tab at the top. There is a button at the bottom titled Update now.
