I just installed a new card into my PC with 4 USB ports in it.  The USB ports run vertically.  after installing the new USB Card I discovered that the slot was too narrow to accomodate the USB cable fittings.  By too narrow I mean from top to bottom (vertically).  The USB fitting will fit in the slot but then it contacts the case on both the top and bottom.  Does anybody have a solution to this problem?

What about this idea?  I unhook everything and sit my PC on the table.  Then I tape a paper towel carefully around the narrow slot on the inside of the case.  This is to protect any metal filings from getting into my PC insides.  I use my Roro Tool with a grinding rock til and grind off part of the narrow slot until it will accomodate the USB fitting without contacting the slot top and bottom.  Will this work?

Bobby, that sure is an unusual setup.  Are you sure they are USB, silly question I know but  .......   I don't think I have ever seen the USB ports going up and down on a card.  Not that I've seen all that many ....  I'm sure it's possible.  Yet and still if the plug fits like you say then the plug on your cable should plug into the port ok even if it is edge to edge, the metal part usually extends more than needed.  See the last link.

Can you find your card on the Net so we can see what it looks like?

Here's the specs and a picture.

This is where the slot is too narrow.  But my slot covers are parallel to the ground instead of vertical as shown in this picture.

Aha, RB girl!  I think that you have solved my problem.  The Amazon link to the USB Card will solve the problem of my PCI Slot cover being too narrow.  The USB Ports are turned to a parallel position  (Horizontal ) instead of verticle.  I'm going to look this one over and if it will work I will order it right now.
See SS to understand what I mean about which way the USB ports are turned.

Take a look at this USB Card.  Are the ports verticle or horizontal?  I can't tell from the picture.

Cancel all correspondence on this post upo till this!!!  The  "Beam Of Enlightenment" has been shined upon mine eyes!  I was just posting this other "stuff" tosee who was paying atention.  This is the way it is.  Somehow I ordered the only USB Port Card with verticle ports on it.  All others that I have found have horizontal ports which will work with the PCI Slot openings.  So I have been educated further and my problem is solved.  It was a good learning experience for Mrs. Bobby though.  She can unhook and hook back up all of the cables on the back of my PC in record time.  She did it three times in less than an hour this evening.  But..............now who is going to wait on me and fetch my needs now?

Bobby, you are too funny!   That's why I was surprised to read the ports on your card were verticle, and the reason I questioned you, I have never seen ports placed in that position on a card before.  Like you say, you must have ordered the only one in the world.  LOL, leave it up to you.....

All wells that ends well.  And I think this will end well.

BTW, regarding what you said in one your above posts:

Quote:
But my slot covers are parallel to the ground instead of vertical as shown in this picture.

If you look carefully you will see that the PC is turned on it's side, that's why the slot covers APPEAR to be vertical to the ground.  Once that PC is placed back on it's feet it will look just like yours.

I thought so Rb but I wasn't sure so I ordered one from Tiger Direct that I knew which way the ports were positioned.  I just spent half an hour getting a Return Authorization Number from TD.  I then ordered the correct USB Card from them.  How much do you want to bet that they will screw up the Return and Reorder balance owed?  I DO believe in a God after all.  There would have to be a God Of Goofups.  There is no way humanly possible for so many things to get messed up in my dealings in life without guidance from a HIGHER POWER.  Thanks for your help.
