I have read several articles about the new IE7 and the nuances of it over the IE6. This one that you might be interested in. As I find other information I will post it here to aid you.

I've been debating on whether or not to download the new Internet Explorer 7, but I'm just not sure if I want to yet. Can you tell me a little more about the features it offers?

Well, it's a good thing you asked this now, because I just found out some very interesting news today. According to an article released by The Washington Post, Microsoft is actually going to try the "force" method in getting people to download the new Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7). And when I say force, I mean force. Very soon, you will be required to download IE 7, as it will come across as a security update through the Automatic Updates that Microsoft is known for.

As soon as today (November 1st), you may be receiving a "high priority" update on your computer. Now, this will only happen to those of you who use Windows XP, but I know that covers the majority of you. All of this is still going through the rumor mill a little, but I wanted to let you all know this before you were bombarded with the update. I'm sure there will be several varying opinions on this matter, but do know there is nothing we can really do about it. On the plus side, IE 7 does have a lot of great new features, which I will get into in a second. Check the features out and before you know it, you might be more anxious for the IE 7 download than ever.

The main three categories that the IE 7 features land under are "Makes everyday tasks easier," "Dynamic security protection" and "Improved platform and manageability." Those sound pretty good, right? Well, let's check out the rest of the details.

As for making your everyday tasks easier to handle, you'll get a simplified user experience with a more clean and streamlined interface. In turn, all of that makes the most common browsing tasks on the Web much easier. There is also a search box at the top of the new browser, so you can start searching instantly. Along with those, there's tabbed browsing, a favorites center, available RSS feeds and even a page zoom option. Sounds decent enough, don't you think?!

The next big thing with IE 7 is its security. The new browser comes with high end security features that will help keep your computer safe from spyware and other types of malware. It's also designed to help protect against identity theft on certain Web sites and phishing acts. Just some of the new security options include an Active X Opt-in, a security status bar, a phishing filter, an easier way to delete your browsing history, an address bar protection area, URL handling security, add ons in the disabled mode, etc. Cool, huh?!

Now, for the last set of features, we will look at how the new IE 7 will bring an improved platform and easier management. As users, we won't have to worry as much about this part, but it's nice to know they're available. Some of these new features are CSS improvements, an application compatibility toolkit, group policy improvements, an Internet Explorer administration kit, open search extensions and an RSS platform, among others.

Now, if you ask me, that's a lot of good changes! What do you think? I know a lot of you have already voiced your opinions about IE 7 and you may not be happy with the choice Microsoft has made, but it sounds like we all better get used to it. And there's no better time to start than now. Check it out and be happy with what you do have! That's really all I can say.

Don't know what to think about M$ automatically downloading and installing that new browser. Doesn't seem right to me.

However, seems like the only way to really find out about it is to install it and give it a test run. I only have one PC running XP, given to me by a friend, and I installed IE7 on the PC (IE7 is only for XP) and used it a bit. It's ok I guess, I've never used IE much anyway.

One good thing about it, it installs in a new folder and doesn't overwrite IE6 so you can uninstall it if you don't care for it. At least I think so.... I haven't tried uninstalling it yet.
