My wife began experiencing problems last night when she tried to go to rooms in games at Pogo and Gamesville. It would start loading and as soon as the room page would load an Error window would appear over it. I have enclosed the error message below. I went through all of the suggested fixes to no avail. I submitted a message to the Support group but have recieved no answer yet. I was eventually directed to a sitge with 356,000 possible answers to the problem. Somewhere along the wayh it was suggested that I try PC Onpoint to fix bugs and errors. It will alledgeledy do a scan and report the found errors and bugs. Does anybody havce any knowledge or experience with PC Onpoint? The web site for a free download is: http://www.pconpoint.com/download/indexsp2.htm. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

More information on PC On Point at: http://www.pconpoint.com/?hop=battlecat
Is this the same as some of the other Registrt Cleaner programs that already exist? I probably have one installed on my PC. |

I have never heard of PC On Point. I don't know if it's like all other registry cleaner or not either, it's hard to tell from the description. It doesn't sound like a regular type program either.
Why would you want to "run" it instead of "save to disk"? It almost sound like it will run and report but won't be yours to keep. Have you "installed" this program, Bobby?
BTW, I take you DID clean out your cache, close the browser and restarted, right? And that did not help at all?

I'd stay away from that software. Here's one person's experience:
I tried the PC-on-point PC cleaner. It found 109 items, and said that it could only fix 53 of them unless I bought the software. So I said go ahead and fix the 53 items. Nothing happened at all. So I quit the program. It is misleading to say that it fixes the problems free, when it doesn't do that at all.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Some programs advertise free SCANNING, but you have to pay for the CLEANING. I suggest you stick with the (completely free) MS Anti-Spyware, Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy.

Quoted from this web page:
http://www.askbobrankin.com/make_windows_xp_run_faster.html
Since the error message was about a Java applet, I suspect the problem is not in the registry. It might be some spyware, or it might be a browser problem, or virus. It wouldn't hurt to do a complete virus check, and a spyware check, just to be on the safe side.
If it's a new game, it might be a coding error. If it's a game she's played before, it could still be a coding error, if the programmer changed anything. If the cause is bad code, there's nothing you can do until the programmer fixes the bug.
Try shutting down the browser completely, close all browser windows. Then fire it up again and see if the game works. If that doesn't fix it, try rebooting. Sometimes Java applets leave bits and pieces in memory, and a reboot will clear that.
You could also try a different browser. Sometimes applets will work in Firefox and not in IE, or vice versa. |

Also, Bobby, consider that the error may have nothing to do with your PC but instead be a program problem with the Web Site. After all it does say "Programming Error". When you said you posted about the problem did you mean reporting it to Pogo? I have learned that it's not wise to always just blame the PC, you could end up banging your head against the wall, trying to fix something that isn't broken.
If these solutions still don't fix your problem, then you have probably encountered a bug in our applet or in the browser you are using. There is a good chance that upgrading your browser will fix the error. If that does not solve the issue, then it is probably a bug in our applet. Please let us know by going to Pogo Help.

Thanks bigR and Rosalie for the information about PC Onpoint and my Gamesville and Pogo problems. I had decided that PC Onpoint wasn't what it was making itself out to be and it would find problems but not fix them until you bought their program.
As for Gamesville and Pogo, my wife has been playing them for a couple of years with no problems until night before last (4-3-06). I first got the error message that it was probably a corrupted applet on Pogo. I went through a lot of cleanup tasks ie: Emptying my cache, super reloading IE, scanning for viruses, running Adaware & Spybot & MS AntiSpyware, rebooting the PC and several more suggested fixes. Something I did worked because both games are up and running again. When I first atempted to manually run Spybot S&D I got an error window saying that I couldn't run it because I was missing a WDEngine.dll file. It suggested that I uninstall the version that I had and install the newer version. I did and it corrested that problem.
So now everything correctly and there is peace in the family again. She thinks that I'm a genius. Please don't tell her that I'm not. She asked me what I did and I dribbled out some high-tech sounding gibberish to her and it stymied her. I'm glad that she didn't ask me to repeat what I had just told her. (I couldn't have).
Thanks again for your help. |

Something you did fixed the problem, so take credit for it! You're now a real, bona fide 'puter guru, Bobby. That means you've got the magic touch for fixing those gadgets.

It amazes me sometimes how much we can repair by accident!
Join the crowd, Bobby.
