I don't have this program, never have used it, but it sounds like a good one for anyone into graphics.  The best part is it's free!

Blender is a full functional integrated 3D creation software suite. It lets users create high quality 3D graphics, movies and replay real-time, interactive 3D content. Over the last decade, Blender has evolved as an in-house tool for a leading European animation studio. Blender is powerful technology used for creating broadcast quality 3D content.

During the Blender Conference 2004 several speakers had a talk about how they apply Blender for their work. Check out the Conference Proceedings.

Professionals and others use Blender for:

Architectural/Industrial applications: Blender lets users create AND deliver superb photo-realistic animation - in convenient, compact files. It's ideal for walkthroughs. Worried that real-time 3D presentations will strain your budget? Enter Blender: Make models, design, and present interactively in your own product environment, and without straining budgets.

Web Design: Say you've got great 3D graphics on your site - but are they interactive? Blender technology makes 3D web publishing state-of-the-art: easy, affordable, fast - interactive.

I've downloaded it. Dunno when I might get around to installing and playing with it. But goodness, it looks like that software has a steep learning curve!

Well at least you have had some experience with this type program, or something much like it, bigR.   If you ever do get around to trying it out let us know how you like it.

Great, Jaddon!!   Let us know how you like it.  Maybe you can teach us how to use it.   Well ...........  at least speaking for myself.   Be forewarned though that with me you would be starting from scratch.  And I mean ground zero.

trueSpace is another 3D modeling and animation program. Version 3.2 is free:
http://www.caligari.com/products/truespace/ts3/default.asp

Later versions cost:
http://www.caligari.com/store/trueSpace/default.asp?Cate=STtrueSpace

5.2 is $199, 6.6 is $395, and version 7 (just out) is $595

I've played a little with trueSpace 1.5 and 3.2, both of which were free downloads. It has a learning curve also. I don't know whether I'll find trueSpace or Blender easier to figure out... whenever I get around to fooling with either or both.

Jaddon, check out trueSpace 3.2, if you like, and let us know how these 2 programs compare.
