| My new burner arrived this morning. Of course it was minus any cables or installation instructions. I should be able to use the cables that are already in use on my old drive shouldn't I? How do I determine whether to set the jumper to Slave or Master? It is set to the Master position now. I have included a SS of part of the installation instructions, provided online, in which it said that if the new DVD/CD drive will share an IDE cable it should be set as a Slave. If you will answer this for me , I will apply all of my learned computer knowledge and install my new drive. Please do not include the comment PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. It will shake my confidence and impair my learning process. |

You're looking in the wrong place for the included SS. It's here!

Don't you have a CD burner also. Will both the CD burner and this new DVD burner be on the same cable? I'm almost sure they will. Like they say you want the faster drive to be master so if your new drive is set as master (and I'm pretty sure it is) you will want to have your CD drive set as slave. Usually the slave is connected to the gray plug on the ribbon.
Since this is a replacement I would think it is already set up that way, with the CD set as slave. BUT since your other one may have never worked properly you may want to check just how the jumper is set on the CD drive. You may have to take it out to see. It shows a picture on there somewhere just where to place the jumper to make it a slave or master.
This will be fun for you!!
