Blake, my W2K image is over 6 GB, how would I get that on a DVD disc??? One part of it is just over 4 GB but still that won't fit on a DVD.

Even though the W2K image that you created is over 6 GB, it was written to two files, one being 4 GB and the other what remained.  The maximum file size on W2K is 4 GB, so there is no way to put a 6 GB image in one file.  So to burn your image, you would have to burn it to 2 DVDs...

I burned the 6GB to two disc.  Both went without a hitch and they look fine in Explorer but don't know if they are any good.

Ture Image is varifying one now.

I imagine that if the image was good before you burned it and if you didn't receive any errors during the burn process, the image will be good.  It's too bad that TI wouldn't verify the first DVD too.  That hardly makes sense...

what the heck is a w2 image? why on earth would it be that large? One image the size of 2 dvd movies doesn't make sence to me.

My new roxio dvd burner is twice as fast as the last, I can burn copies of my movies in double time! I love it! Can't wait to make new movies with it. I will have tons of new features..

W2K is my OS, Windows 2000.  I have the OS, Program Folder and Documents and Settings on one partition.

All my personal files like, downloads, JPGs, web pages that I've built, etc. are on another partiton.

Another partition has backups such as the Salt folder with my mail & bookmarks, data backup of this forum, etc.

I use Acronis True Image to create an image of the W2K partition and I store it on a 2nd HDD.  In case my OS goes South like yours did the other day, I can use True Image to restore it from the image I had made.

The other partitions, which would have been untouched by any crash of the OS, would still have all the up to date files and documents.

Anyway it was that image I wanted to burn to a DVD for extra insurance.  True Image will only make a 4GB size image at one time and since my W2K parttion was over 6GB True Image made two files, one was 4GB and the other was 2GB.  I burned the 4GB to one DVD and the 2GB to another DVD.

If I had a double layer blank DVD disc I could have burned both files on one disc.

I wish I had known about creating partitions and storing the OS on a partition apart from all the work I had created years ago.  That was one of the first things Blake had me do after we met and talked PC on the internet.  Now I can't imagine doing it any other way.

If possible havng a second HDD to store back ups is the ideal.  I have tons of downloads and created work, if I were to lose my OS and downloads and personal files all in one full swoop I think I would jump out of the window.  Even if it is on the ground floor.  LOL

I don't understand the benefit over just burning the new files. I don't trust the hd to store, I lost one already on this pc. I think making recovery disks and back up files is best for me. That roxio 8 had a backup feature that does all kinds of things and like you do with partitions, and I didn;t install it. That was because it took over my files and I spent years organizing, it just dumps it all in a barrel, a big mess. Maybe I'll try it again someday, if you all do it must be right. I do have a partition, 9 CD recovery disks worth of my windows etc..
