Its the same board I think!
Thats great, maybe you guys can help me out with answers to q as I go.
Here is their forum -
http://catch-n.com/forums/index.php?sid=c553b0465912f32c290e3187ba3973 7a
back up is out of the question for me then, that many mb would take 24 hours to load over a long period and theirs is larger since they don't delete anything, its a accumulation of info so they save every post.
I want to reaarrange their style, its a mess, I want to drop it down to just a few forums and then split from there, rather than have a giant first page. I like your stle of navigating, but like I said their posts stick on first page and there is no page 2.
I already made changes, I added a site description, they didn't have any........ so now they should get listed in google at top of fshin forum.
By the, I don't know hat I'm doing but if this board is the same, you don't have a site description on here either. The words grapevine etc. won't get any hits, need to really describe this forum, like ...... "Forum" is the nest word and then descibe from there and try to match what people might type in google, like "forum for nice people, share your oppinion here!" I don't know much but I do get good traffic. Type fishead cartoons into alexa, then type fishead tackle and all my other sections, its pretty high. Thats why they want my help, to get traffic for them. |

Fishead, the new board that you are administering is a phpBB board, just like RCF. Either the template hasn't been updated or the board is way behind on the updates. You should first try to bring it up to 2.0.19, the current phpBB version. Some hosts have shut down sites that are behind on their updates without any warning...
I have added Meta tags in the overall header with descriptions of RCF. I'm sure that it could be modified to bring more traffic to RCF but since I'm not a marketing expert, I did the best I knew how to do. If you can enhance what is already there, I think we all would be greatful, especially if it increases the traffic to our community. Here is what I have in the Meta tags now:
| Code:
|
<META NAME="title" CONTENT="RoseBUD Community">
<META NAME="description" CONTENT="Progressive Community open to free and open discussion about any topic. We offer chat, games, computer advice, etc...">
<META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="chat, discussion, games, computer, advice, progressive, respect, internet radio, gallery">
|
I would be more than happy to help you get your new board up to speed as well...

I like that idea of the meta tags. So can that code go anywhere in the overall header? actually I mean right at the beginning like it would be on a normal html page.
I have found that my board is being found easily enough through people doing searches say for example on google. The google bot and other bots come to the site regularly to index the pages. So I think that the more posts you have the more people will find you. Meta tags is a good idea so I will add these later too. |

I added an announcement to our Meta Tag creator utility in Talk PC and phpBB Chat. You are free to use it to create Meta Tags that you can copy and paste into your overall_header.tpl files. The Google, MSN, Yahoo, etc Bots use your Meta Tags to help Index your site for Search engines. A good Meta tag is supposed to improve the flow of traffic to your boards...
Meta Tag Creator
The Meta tag should be pasted in the Header Section only...

I am going in to look around pretty soon, but I'm not touching anything for awhile. I may need high speed cable to work on it right.
I would gladly come up with some key words for you. Its funny, last night I discovered a big word and nobody is qued to it, its wide open. I think getting traffic is easy, getting the right traffic is harder.
"A fun blogging forum with artists, computer talk and daily news blogs". Theres a brief description of rb's forum. You can break those down and put forum next to them, and also still leave as a sentence too. |

I maintain and administer RCF without broadband. Of course it makes it nice that I can ask rb to download all the files from the board whenever I've made a lot of changes and get her to run the db backups since they have gotten so huge. But unless the data in that database is massive you don't really need a broadband connection...
I have downloaded all the RCF files to my PC on numerous occasions and I use dial-up. It just takes a lot longer for me than it does for rb. Basically you only need to download all the files once in order to create a good backup. Then from then on, you only need to download files that you intend to modify, which won't take that long most of the time....
If the board doesn't already have it, you will want to install EasyMod. There are several people here who are now experts on installing and using EM and MODs so you will be in good company...

Hi Dave H. Welcome to our community. Kick your shoes off and stay a spell.
Nightrider is getting to be quite the whiz at installing and modifying MODS. He is always willing to help anyone as time permits. A really super nice guy!
