Dear Comcast High-Speed Internet Customer:

Comcast is committed to providing you with the best online experience possible.

One of the ways we do that is by managing the leading fiber optic network in the nation to ensure it is fast, safe and reliable. As part of our ongoing efforts to continuously improve the quality of our service, we are switching to a new network congestion management technique by the end of the year. It is focused on managing network congestion only when and where it may occur. It will also replace the current technique and will help ensure that all of our customers receive their fair share of network resources.

What does this mean for you? Probably nothing. We ran five market trials of this technique over the summer and found that less than one percent of customers were affected. So, the vast majority of customers will not notice any change to their Internet experience as a result of this new technique. During the times of busiest network use (which could occur at any hour, depending on your neighborhood), those very few extraordinarily heavy users – who are doing things like conducting multiple and continuous large file transfers – may experience slightly longer response times for some online activities until the period of network congestion ends.

As we transition to this new technique, we have amended our Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") and posted it on the Comcast.net Web site. For links to the amended AUP, as well as answers to Frequently Asked Questions and more information about this new technique or our network management efforts in general, please visit our Network Management Policy page at: www.comcast.net/networkmanagement.

Thank you again for choosing Comcast as your high-speed Internet provider.

------------------------------

What this really means:

Comcast is NOT committed to providing you with the best online experience possible.

We are switching to a new unfair technique by the end of the year. It is focused on slowing you whenever and whereever it may occur, or as we see fit. It will also replace the current fair technique and to ensure customers don't receive their fair share of network resources.

What does this mean for you? Hold on to your raer, your about to get kicked. We ran five market trials of this technique over the summer and found that less than one percent of customers were affected. So, the vast majority of customers will not notice any change to their Internet experience as a result of this new unfair technique. During the times of busiest network use (which could occur at any hour, depending on your neighborhood), those users – who are doing things like conducting multiple and continuous large file transfers – will experience much longer response times for some online activities until the period of network congestion ends.

As we transition to this new technique, we have amended our Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") and posted it on the Comcast.net Web site so we can legally give you bad service. For links to the amended AUP, as well as answers to Frequently Asked Questions and more information about this new unfaIR technique or our network management efforts in general, please visit our Network Management Policy page at: www.comcast.net/networkmanagement, or unabletoconnect.com.

Thank you again for choosing Comcast as your only high-speed Internet provider, ho ho ho.

OK I had to clean that up a little, it just made me angry.

I am already seeing signs of slow connection all the sudden after getting this email warning. Like youtube on saturday night, half the videos didn't work, they would just stall out and never load. This is what comcast is talking about, people who watch videos and the like will start to see slow connections. The real reason being, not over loaded wires like they claim but they will soon want more money for faster connections, like the other companies already require. We may end up back with dialup standards again and cc wanting twice or three times the money for what we already had. They can't make it faster so they make it slower and then offer to let you buy faster for more money.

I can't swear to anything Comcast is doing or not doing but even before the email I wasn't all that happy with them sometimes and now even less.

I think some of the slowness and page not loading is lost of transmission.  I am getting that ever so often, the lights on the modem seem to act the same as always and the icon in the tray says there is a connection but there is no data going back and forth.  If I call them they check from the office and say I'm connect.  Well DUH, yes I am connected but I'm not getting any data!

If it wasn't for the hassle I would have switched to AT&T/SBC high speed a long time ago.  Roadrunner was faster and more dependable.

Att&t and others charge per usuage, they have package deals and thats what comcast wants to do, but first they have to slow us down then offer to let us buy speed. After talking to my son I was informed about their new 250 gig limit.

==========================================================

Comcast to Place a Cap on Internet Downloads

Beginning Oct. 1, Comcast will put a 250 gigabyte-a-month cap on residential users......

Comcast’s cap does not amount to Internet metering, the charging of different prices for different broadband speeds or usage, but the change to Comcast’s policy does not rule out metering in the future.
.....
In June, Time Warner Cable began a metering trial in one Texas city by offering various monthly plans and charging extra when consumers exceeded their bandwidth limit. ...consumers already pay by usage for water and electricity....
.....
“As media companies put content online, consumers can bypass the cable companies and get their content directly from the Internet,.....
.....
Critics have charged that Internet providers are trying to protect their cable TV and telephone businesses by stifling Internet access. Comcast says Fancast, its online video Web site, will count against the 250 gigabyte limit, but its digital voice service will not.

Better be carefull about watching frontline and shows online, they could put you over the limit.
