Yep, I lost everything. All my work of configuring and installing is all lost. Probably 300 frustrating hours of confisguring installing lost. The hd kept getting fuller and fuller until it maxed out and fried. I tired to use sys recovery, the very thing that was eating up my hd and it said I had no restore points picked out. So it ate all my sapce and in the end didn't even work. This thing is 6 months old. That is ridiculas. HP will hear about this.

It wouldn't reboot, then it would run tests that didn't work, tried safe mode and deleting all my files, no good, still would not reboot. There is a microsoft recovery and a sys recovery, the only one that worked reformatted the HD.

Now I want to install windows xp. Tell me why I can't use the xp from old pc that is sitting here not being used? I will buy a new HD but I sure hate to pay for xp.

You can transfer a license from one PC to another if I understand it correctly.  But it's just that, a transfer which means you won't be able to use both machines.  Legally.  Maybe even Illegally.

This is from an article but you would need to call MS to find out just how to do it anyway so I would ask them how it works exactly.

6) If you try to activate the product on more than one PC (get more than one activation key) Microsoft will refuse to do it. If you have a legitimate reason, such as moving it from one machine to another, they will allow it, and give you a new code.

How does Windows XP activation work?

Be aware that they were suppose to phase XP by the end of the year (2007) and I'm not sure they even support it anymore.

I imagine that M$ will support XP for many more years.  They still support W2K even though it was released over 7 years ago.  They would probably have a revolution on their hands if they didn't continue to provide activation codes for those currently using XP.  It's a shame that you have to depend on M$ to provide that before the OS will work correctly though.  That's why it is better to stick with W2K...

Its running again, I wasn't down too long. I do need in install a few programs but I'm back burning discs and listening to music with it. The only thing good about it is it goes good with my new widescreen moniter.
