| I have an HP about 3 1/2 years old everything utd working fine but for one little problem(or maybe not)... I have done the usual, emptied all the temps kept my updates up but for some reason when I sign off it now takes 1 or 2 minutes to start the process, where previously I clicked restart or what ever and boom boom away it went... Is there something else I need to check or just chalk it up to getting older? Thanks |

Katy, you need the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service. It's written by Microsoft and runs in Services. This made a big difference on my PC. It used to take almost 3 minutes for it to shut down and now it shuts down in 20 to 25 seconds.
Why Windows takes so long to Shut Down
The link for the download is in the middle of the page.
Here is more from Microsoft about the issue you are experiencing.
Troubleshooting profile unload issues
They send you to the same download.
Let me know how it works or if you have any problems.

If you don't want to take the time for all the validation at that site you can download it here instantly. It's the very same application.

| UPDATE: As I claimed it worked the first 2 times I closed down the PC.. However it reoccurred again over the weekend... I decided to investigate further and in thinking about this I thought about never having this problem when I was on dial up... while in device mgr, I saw that my old modem was still there I disabled this and so far its. working...I don't know why this would work but it is and thats all I care about... |

Whatever works! Some times we don't really need to know why.
LOL, remember Phillip Dyer banning the word "Why" in SE years ago! That was soooo funny!
