Does anyone know of a program that allows you to recover a file that was deleted for good from the recycle bin? I had a video file in there ages ago and emptied the bin taking the file with it. I know the file name so I just need something where I type the file name in and it searches for it.

Thanks

Aussie, we posted about this one here before:

http://www.download.com/Restoration/3003-2094_4-10322949.html

I thought I had it on this PC but can't find it, must be my other one.  However, I do remember testing it by deleting some files and then recovering them, for that it worked fine.

It's worth a try.  And it's free!  And it's perfect that you remember the file name, that will go a long way.

OK, now I know why I couldn't find it in my programs, it doesn't install, it's a stand alone program and I have the icon in my tool bar at the bottom of the screen.

It didn't find it. It's been a while since I deleted it. Not sure if I've formatted my computer since then or not.

Ohh well, it's not that important anyway

I'm sorry, Aussie, that the program didn't recover your file.  However if it's been so long ago that you don't even remember if you formatted since or not I'm not surprised that it is gone.

When you delete a file it really isn't erased but it is eligible for being over written so the longer a files has been deleted the more likely it is that it's been overwritten with newer stuff.  The best chances of recovering a file is soon after being deleted.
